I
have come to the frightening conclusion...
That I am the decisive element.
It is my personal approach that creates the
climate.
It is my daily mood that makes the weather.
I possess tremendous power to make life miserable
or joyous.
I can be a tool of torture or an instrument
of inspiration,
I can humiliate or humor, hurt or heal.
In all situations, it is my response that
decides
whether a crisis is escalated or de-escalated,
and a person is humanized or de-humanized.
If we treat people as they are, we make them
worse.
If we treat people as they ought to be,
we help them become
what they are capable of becoming.
-J.W.Goethe

I learned this ...
I learned this, at least by
my experiment: that if you advance confidently in the direction
of your dreams, and endeavor to live the life which you have
imagined, you will meet with a success unexpected in common
hours. You will put some things behind, you will pass an invisible
boundary; new, universal and more liberal laws will begin
to establish themselves around and within you; or the old
laws will be expanded, and interpreted in your favor in a
more liberal sense, and you will live with the license of
a higher order of beings. In proportion as you simplify your
life, the laws of the universe will appear less complex, and
solitude will not be solitude, nor poverty poverty, nor weakness
weakness. If you have built castles in the air, your work
need not be lost, that is what they should be. Now put foundations
under them.
