Screaming Jealousy The narrow hallways seemed to tower over the small helpless dog. It constantly stared at me and whimpered in pain. I turned and ran down the second hallway. It seemed a lot less towering and the wall consisted of portraits. Stopping to look at the picture, my stomach wrenched with disgust. The portraits portrayed a single man, but his face was disfigured with an axe sticking out of it. Blood dripped down his face and clothes. Turning I returned going down the hallway. The hall was continuing to get narrow and smaller. The ceiling became considerably low. I got down on my hands and knees and began crawling. The floor was covered with a thick green substance, which stuck to my hands and knees. I looked up and realized that I stopped in front of a tall wooden door. I got up quickly and opened the door. On the other side, it was amazing. The most greenly trees and grass. I hurried out into the beautiful scene, not knowing if it was real or a figment of my imagination. Turning around I noticed a tall tree with a swing attached to it. I ran over and began swinging. The cool breeze satisfied me with a feeling of safety. Swinging for hours, I just realized something seemed a bit different. Glancing around the clouds seemed to be getting darker. The trees no longer looked that green. Putting my foot to the ground, I noticed something really odd. My foot was touching air. I looked down to see this vortex opening just beneath me. I held tightly onto the swing, but the force of the vortex, just was not making me feel safe anymore. My legs flew out beneath me. I knew this was the end. The end of my life… Chapter One “Abigail Thompson. You get off that computer right now!” I swerved my chair by the door. My mom was standing by the bottom of the stairs glancing up at my bedroom door. “I’ll be off in 2 minutes. I just need to finish this story.” I yelled down to her. “No! I want you off now. You’ve been on for 2 hours now. Let your brother on” My mom glared up at my room. I knew she was mad, but I couldn’t help but laugh. My mom was short with a round face that gave her the appearance of a little kid. I turned and went over to my computer and quickly shut it off. “Ok, I’m off now.” I got up and looked at the time. Shit, I was 15 minutes late. Amber was going to kill me. I was supposed to be at her house 15 minutes ago. I quickly pulled on a pair of jeans and a tank top. Grabbing my keys, I hurried down the stairs into the kitchen. My mom and brother were sitting down eating dinner. I told her I couldn’t stay and headed out the door. I jumped into my silver Grand Vitara. I just got this car for my birthday about a week ago. It was a major shock that my dad actually bought it for me. I speed down the streets and turned into Amber’s driveway. I jumped out of the car and went to the front door and rang the bell, then knocked on her door. That was a secret thing between us. She always knew it was me by that ring and knock. The door opened and there stood Amber. She was cute for a girl. She was short and skinny. She had these huge puppy-dog eyes, and short cropped brown hair. Two silver-balled chains hung around her neck. Amber was what you would call, a skater. She stepped back and let me through into her house. “Where’s Trevor and Josh?” I turned to ask her. She locked the door and walked past me into the kitchen. She picked up a mug and handed me a warm cup of hot chocolate. She picked up her mug and took a sip from the big mug. “They said they were coming later.” She dumped the rest of the tea into the sink. “But I thought they were supposed to be here before me?” I quickly finished my hot chocolate and put the mug into the sink. I followed her up the stairs to her bedroom. “I don’t know. They just said they would be here late.” She walked to the middle of her room, only to stop and look confused. “Where did I put that top…I bought this wicked top yesterday. I wanna show it to you.” She hopped to her closet and began searching it. I turned around and looked around for any top that I have never seen before. I was looking on her bed when I spotted something shiny. “Is this your top?” I pulled out the top and held it up for me to see. On the front of it was a picture of the sky and a satellite. Then written in front of it was ‘Jet Set Satellite’, in big metallic-blue writing. Amber was obsessed with that band. She quickly stood up and looked over at me. “Yeah. Give it here. I’m gonna put it on. Hold on. Have some candy or something.” She ran into the bathroom and locked the door. I turned and sat on the edge of her bed. I looked around her room. Stuffed animals hung from her ceiling, blue paint covered the walls, a desk and inflatable furniture near her closet, and a small TV by her bed. I got up and walked to the bathroom door. “Amber, I’ll be downstairs. Ok?” “Yeah, ok.” She called back threw the door. As I walked down the stairs I heard a sound by the front door. I slowed down and turned to the front door. The curtains blocked my view of seeing if there was anybody outside. I walked slowly to the front door. Just as I was in front of the door, a quick click sounded and the front door swung open. There in the pouring rain, stood two tall men with guns in their hands. |
