A Message from ILTC’s New President…

Hello! My name is Mary Gurtowski and I am your new club President. Many of you might know me from working together on past shows, greeting you at the door before a show or maybe cavorting at a dinner meeting. To some of you, I might not be too familiar. I think it’s important that we get to know each other. I was born and raised in the Valley and come from a family of four creative kids. After college, I felt it was important to cultivate my love of the arts and join ILTC. I’ve been a member for only five years but I have a hard time remembering my life before ILTC.

Whether you visit our theater only once in a while or you have come to all three productions each year for as long as you can remember, I want your theater experience at ILTC to be a unique and special one. And I want our theater to be around for the many generations to come.

To that end, this year we have created a couple of committees which hopefully will contribute to the longevity and prosperity of our beloved theater. One, our grant committee, is currently in the process of seeking out information on what grant monies might be available for us to help restore The Stables and perhaps make the building itself more useful to the club. The other committee, which I’ve tentatively dubbed “marketing” will brainstorm ways in which to become more visible in our community in an effort to draw more active members into the fold.
We depend upon you! Your support in the audience, 50/50 raffle donations, and word-of-mouth advertising are what keeps ILTC going strong. And we appreciate all the ways you show your support. That’s why we would like to invite you to participate in our club even more. No, we would never force you to get up on stage unwillingly; but there are a myriad of other ways in which you might be able to help. Do you like to sew, play the piano or swing a hammer? Are you interested in learning how to build sets or run stage lights? Do you cook a mean casserole and like to chit chat with new friends? Please give us a call! I’m sure your hidden talents will find a new home with us.

Please give it a thought. We’d love to get to know you. I encourage everyone who receives our newsletter to contact us with suggestions. Without you, we couldn’t be who we are.

Thank you for taking the time to read my message. I hope you will introduce yourself to me when we cross paths. And of course we’d love to see you at our dinner meetings on the 3rd Thursday of each month (from September through May) for some great conversation and food!

Best regards,
Mary Gurtowski, President

2008 – 2009 Board Elected

The 2008 – 2009 Board Election took place at the Annual Meeting on May 15th. Kelly Stone will continue as Vice President. George Malavasic will remain as Treasurer and George Lyon will fulfill the position of Secretary. Members-at-Large are Art Wilks, Mary Lee Lynch and Beverly Poznoski.

Other Happenings:
• Directional signs have been ordered for placement around the Village of Ilion leading the way to ILT!
• A clean-out day was held on July 12th. Eight theater members made great progress in the attic, throwing out unsalvageable (sometimes bizarre) items to fill a haul-off dumpster to the brim. Great job and kudos to each person who helped!

Dinner Meetings Resume September 18th

The board will be hosting the first dinner meeting of the season on Thursday, September 18th , grilling up some burgers and hot dogs with all the fixins’. All are welcomed to attend and bring appropriate side dishes. The social hour will begin at 6:00 p.m. at The Stables, followed by dinner at 7:00 p.m., and a brief business meeting at 8:00 p.m. We urge all active and honorary members to attend. If you’re not an Active Member, but are thinking about becoming involved in ILT or would like more information, please join us as our guest this meeting. We are always looking for new members to assist in a variety of tasks, have fun and enjoy each other’s company. Come join us on September 18th and find out the benefits of membership!

Mailing List Notice!
We have been recently approached by like-minded organizations about sharing our mailing list. Before we do this, we would like to extend the opportunity for you to opt out. If you do not wish to receive mail from other theaters, please mail, email, or call the theater by October 5th. We will not share your contact information with other theater organizations if you let us know. Thank you!

New Subscription Prices

After many, many years of remaining at the same cost, ILT has determined it necessary to increase the price of subscriptions to $30.00, with individual tickets sold at the door for $12.00 ($8.00 for students). Please see the subscription form below.

Utica Monday Nite

ILT appeared August 4th as part of the UTICA MONDAY NITE PLAYERS OF UTICA HOSTS series. Anton Chekhov’s The Boor was performed by George Lyon, Char Girmonde and George Malavasic. The play was well-received by approximately 50 people in the auditorium at Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Museum.

Perfect Wedding

Audiences thoroughly enjoyed all the performances of May’s Perfect Wedding, directed by George Lyon, and starring (left to right) Megan McCoy, Josh Clemmons, Katie Drake, Char Girmonde, Victoria Girmonde and Dave Dellecese. The cast truly had a fantastic time.

An evening of Chekhov is planned for November, to be presented Nov. 21, 22 & 23. More details to follow. Please note that the performance is not part of our regular season.

ILT's 2008 – 2009 Season

Parallel Lives by Mo Gaffney and Kathy Najimy
Directed by Dave Stritmater

Our season opens with the 2006 revision of the comedy that was a hit both on stage and on HBO. Three actors -- Beverly Poznoski, Cindy Shepherd and Nikki Trombley -- will play over two dozen characters, including women, men, children, teenagers and Disney mothers; they poke fun at life's foibles and inconsistencies and offer some interesting insights into our daily social dealings. The script deals with mature subject matter, sometimes using frank adult language.

"....a romp with a feminist sensibility.…a smart, provocative show." ---- Variety

Performances are on November 7 and 8 at 8:00 p.m., November 9 at 2:00 p.m. and November 14 and 15 at 8:00 p.m.

Coming in March:

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum
Music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, Book by Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbard

A musical comedy about a day in the lives of three neighboring households in ancient Rome. Filled with love, passion, deception, revenge and farcical mayhem, it ends with everyone getting what they wanted, including some great tunes!

______________________________

Coming in May:

On Golden Pond by Ernest Thompson

A touching, funny and warmly perceptive study of a spirited and loveable elderly couple facing their twilight years.

================================================

The Fourth Annual Young Actors Workshop concluded on June 6th with an exceptional program comprised of two short plays, "Willabella Witch’s Last Spell" and "Class Action." Sixteen talented and enthusiastic young people participated this year. The program has experienced great success and support.

Season Subscriptions:

We will be selling season subscriptions this year for $30.00, which entitles you to attend one performance of each of the season’s three productions. This constitutes a 17% saving over the single-ticket cost. Subscriptions may be purchased at the door at the first production or by printing and mailing the form below with your check. Although we would like to guarantee subscribers a seat for whichever performance they would like to attend, limitations on our seating capacity and on our ability to staff a reservation system prevent us from doing so at this time. Therefore, we urge subscribers to arrive at least a half-hour before the performance they are attending to be sure of finding a seat.
