ODDUDUA

Oddudua or Oddua is another very important Orisha to Orumila and his priests. Oddudua is considered to be the creator of the earth, while Obatala was the creator of the human race. Oddudua is very connected to the spirits of the Dead. He is considered to be Santo, but also Muerto. Oddua is often called the King of the Dead. Oddudua is also considered to be a manisfestation of the omnipresence of Olodumare, knowing everything and seeing everything with his single eye. Oddudua is Truth and Purity, as well as Intelligence and Justice personified. His day is January 1st of each year. Oddudua is very closely identified also with the Osun of the Babalawos. This is a special Osun that is the same height as the person receiving it. All Babalawos have to receive this Osun and many times, others are also instructed to receive this protection. When you receive Oddudua, you receive this special Osun, if you have not already done so. Both the Osun of Babalawos and Oddudua have to be received by a Babalawo before he can receive Olofi, the highest consecration of this religion.

OLOFI

OLOFI is the highest Orisha that can be received. OLOFI is received only by Babalawos. While OLODUMARE is considered to be the creator and sustainer of the Universe, Olofi is considered to be more connected with this solar system and planet Earth. OLORUN is the name given to the manisfestation of Olofi as the god of the sun, which after all, is the basis of life in our solar system. The children of Orunla or Babalawos are considered to be the witnesses of Olofi. In Africa, if a Babalawo is not present during the ceremony of making the Saint, that person is not considered to have the Saint made. This is because the Babalawo is the witness of Olofi and validates the ceremony being performed. Likewise, Olofi must be present during the consecration of a new Babalawo. Olofi is received as a "fundamento". That is to say, that Olofi is consecrated in a physical form. Most Babalawos do not speak of Olofi much to those that are not Babalawos. The secrets of Olofi are very well kept. Olofi must live in a place that is kept secret and apart from prying eyes. NO ONE who has not received Olofi is allowed to see Olofi. When a Babalawo has received Olofi, he is considered to be in the highest rank of Babalawos. Receiving Olofi is the highest honor.
