Somewhere in April I heard in our weekly music class that ten to fifteen pupils from 2A were asked for a project in the Concertgebouw. At once I wanted to participate, I thought it was very special to play in the Concertgebouw. I was picked, together with other classmates, to go there. We would be practicing and talking with members of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.
The first day we went there, by public transport, nobody knew exactly what was going to happen. We arrived at the Concertgebouw, and we met our 'teachers', three members of the C.B.S.O. The first day was kind of weird, we had to make rhythms, play instruments we never played before and talk English all the time. We created a short piece of music on the first day, which they said was pretty good.
The second day we created another short piece and we connected it withe the first piece, this took a long time, but it was a lot of fun to make music on instruments you never played before. At the end of the second day, (Friday) we had made a complete piece that lasted about three minutes and we could play it fairly well.
The next two days were weekend, nothing happened relating to the project.
On Monday we had to perform it in the Concertgebouw (the small room), but first we had general repetition. We played it through once or twice, and it went almost flawlessly. Later on that day we performed it.
During this project I learned a lot, such as what aleatoric and crematic is, and I enjoyed the complete project very much. Our 'teachers'were very nice. It was a great experience.
