Your Pet Cavy

Did you know that you can enter YOUR cavy in the PET CLASS??
When showing your pet cavy there are a few important things to know before entering:

Your cavy MUST be clean - this means having a bath before the show, having toenails cut (as not to scratch the judge), boars must also have their grease glands cleaned.

Cavies entered must NOT have any missing hair (note: all cavies have a bald patch behind their ears) or scabs / opened wounds.
These are not only disqualifications, but can also be an indication of something more serious - such as mites or fungal which are contagious.

Sows must NOT be pregnant or nursing babies.
The entry is $2.00 per pet cavy.
Make sure to bring your pet cavy in a SECURE carry cage.
This can be anything from a cardboard box to a proper cavy carry cage.
There must be ample airflow and the cavy must not be able to jump out.

Pet classes at the HVCC Shows (and most shows run by the NSW Cavy Club) are at 10.00am, pet cavies are to arrive by 9.30 to be entered.
Cavies entered by members in the breed classes will be groomed and "prepared" for the show. If you are interested in finding out how to do this correctly for your pet cavy just ask a member at the show.
