Paul Rusesabagina

Paul Rusesabagina was a hotel manager in Rwanda during the Rwandan Genocide. Paul was a Hutu so he was safe from being killed in the genocide. He was, at first, only worried about getting him and his family to safety. Even though he was a Hutu the rest of his family and neighbors were Tutsi and were in severe danger of being killed. He was able to hide Tutsis in his hotel so they would not be killed. He was the only help that the Tutsi people had in this time of despair. Paul's hotel became the one haven for the Tutsi even though there was very little outside protection from any military powers; Paul was able to protect his family along with many other Tutsi with his ties with powerful people. The UN did provide security for the hotel, but there were only very few guards who eventually left. Paul was all alone at the hotel to stand up the thousands of Hutus who wanted to kill everyone at the hotel.

Paul is a man of great faith because he helped hundreds of people when no one else would. Paul thought about running away many times. He thought about it in the very begining and he thought about it constantly through out the entire Genocide, but he constantly reminded himslef, with the help of his wife, that he was doing the right thing. He could have taken his family and gotten them away from the danger, but instead he stayed. He saved those who no one else would, and he did so without any need to for his own good. Paul risked his own life to save those of hundreds of others, and that is why he is a man of faith. Even when a UN convoy came to help escort some of the people to saftey, Paul stayed. He stayed becuase he feared what would happen to the rest of the refugees if he were to leave, and he knew he would never be able to forgive himself. In the end, Paul stayed in Rwanda and in doing so saved the people in the hotel.
