The key topic for this section of our junior faith course is the human Jesus. In this section we looked at the different aspects of Jesus' life, and looked in full detail at the idea of Jesus' humanity. We looked at different arguments for the reasoning behind the ideas of Christianity, and looked at our beliefs and the beliefs of others through "This I Believe."
In this section we saw Jesus as a man who taught with authority. Jesus did not use the authority of others to help his own teachings which was extremely countercultural because everyone who had authority in Jesus' time gained the authority by taking it from others. This is why Jesus is said to have no footnotes meaning he came up with his own teaching without the help of any others before him, which helps to show how Jesus chooses to work.
I was to remember how countercultural Jesus was. As we saw in this section Jesus was extremely different from those of his time. Jesus hung with the outcasts of the society, and associated with the people no one else would. I want to keep this in mind, so I may try to be more like Jesus, and be more countercultural like Jesus who is the model of humanity.
This entire section focused on the humanity of Jesus. We looked at the aspect of Jesus' life that is not as common as the divine Jesus. In our lives today we see the divine Jesus talked about all the time, but we rarely talk about his humanity. I want to remember the humanity of Jesus because it helps me to realize that Jesus was extremely similar to me.
We are presented with two aspects of Jesus' life. The divine Jesus who is God and the human Jesus who is completely countercultural in his teachings and way of life. In both ways that we look at Jesus we see that he is an extremely giving being who loved everyone and offered forgiveness. In his divinity he offered eternal life, and in his human life he taught the ways of love, compassion, and forgiveness.
