The key topic for this section of our junior faith course is the question "What is faith?" In this section we tried to define the term faith in a way that we can understand. We did this by looking at different people who were models of faith. Many of the people who were models of faith were extraordinary people who did truly great things, but not everyone. Some of the models of faith we looked at were very different people, but they were still models of faith.
One of the ideas that I want to remember from this section is the Iraqi Suicide bomber. This is a man of great faith. We would not normally think of this type of person as a man of faith, rather we would think of him as crazy or insane. This section has showed me that he is not crazy in the slightest, and he knows exactly what he is doing. He has put his faith in what he believes is right and is willing to give up everything for his faith which shows that he is a true man of faith.
The second thing that I would like to remember about this section is the movie The Mission. In this movie, we see a man who gives up his old life of slave trade which is a very profitable life, and he becomes a Jesuit and works for the people that you would otherwise kill and sell. We see Rodrigo go through a huge transformation, and at the end he fights and dies for the Indians. Rodrigo chooses violence over peace, but we still see Rodrigo as a heroic figure and a man of faith.
The third thing I would like to remember about the fourth section of the theology course is the article about the Father of the Year. In this article we see a man, Dick Hoyt, put faith in his son. He is told at his son’s birth that there is nothing that anyone can do for his son, but he puts a blind faith into his son and believes he can help him. Dick, a very ordinary man, becomes extraordinary out of the love for his son, and he does whatever he can to make his son happy. Dick Hoyt believed in his son when no one else did, and devoted his life to his son, and is a great man of faith because of it.
In this section we see many extraordinary people who show great faith and devote their lives to their cause. In this section, I think the Iraqi Suicide bomber is the man of greatest faith. He believes in what he is doing is right so much that he is not only willing to die for it, but he wants to have the honor of giving his life for the cause. The bomber knows that what he is doing is right and is what God wants, so he puts his faith in what he is doing. In class we were asked if we would do the exact same thing in his situation, and i think the answer is yes. He sees the United States as pure evil, and he is doing what he can to get rid of it, just as the United States does. They try to rid the world of all its evil, and I think if we were put in the bombers situation that I would do the same.
