The key topic for this section of our junior faith course is "Reason." This section talks about the steps that a person must take to reason. In this section we talked about the different kinds of thinking, reasoning and knowledge. We also talked about the errors that one may occur in the process of reasoning. Reasoning does not come automatically to most people in our world today, and there are many errors that you can encounter on the way to reason.P>
One of the ideas that I want to remember from this section is the movie, What the Bleep Do We Know?!. This movie was about quantum physics and talks about the human mind as it goes through the process of reasoning. I want to remember this movie because it was very interesting and thought provoking. I have never seen a movie that makes you think so much about the world around you and the possibilities that this world and what we know may not be the absolute truth.
The second thing that I would like to remember about this section is the picture of the old and young lady. The picture showed me allot about the way people perceive different things. I learned that not everyone sees the same thing even though they may be looking at the exact same thing. I was able to see both figures from the beginning and did not even think that anyone was no able to see either, but I was very wrong. Most of the class could only see one of the figures which were very surprising to me. This picture shows allot about the human brain and the way that everyone perceives things differently.
The third thing I would like to remember about the third section of the theology course is movie about Victor Crawford. The movie was about this man named Victor Crawford who was a man who lobbied for the tobacco industry. Crawford knew he was lying, but he did not think he was wrong in doing so. He blatantly uses evidence to support his argument for smoking that he did not believe in and he knew was not real, but his reasoning behind this was that his job was to win and that’s what he was doing. Crawford gained much wealth and power through his job, but he also gains lung cancer because he was smoking from a very young age. The reasons I want to remember this is because this movie shows how people think about why they lie.
Most of the people in America today want perceived goods more then they want real goods. Many people will do anything to be able to get what they think they want, but why do they want the things that are bad for them? Much of America wants to get the things that the press and the influence of society have said are good. They want to be like the people in the movies or have enormous amounts of money like Bill Gates. The people would rather have these things because they think that they will be happy if they get them. They are led to believe that, in America, money is the key to happiness, so they do what ever they can to try to attain their happiness by doing what they are told will make them happy.
