Character
Questions
1.
Can I be an animagus? Or a metamorphmagus?
If you are new to this site, then the answer will definantly be no.
Becoming an animagus takes years of study, and even then some wizards
never accomplish it. Therefore it is given out rarely, and never before
5th year. If you are dead-set on becoming an animagi, then you will need
to prove that you are a skill role-player and have a valid reason for
you character wishing to become one. The same rules go for being a metamorphmagus--except that is it rarer and your character must have been born with the ability. Students may RP the desire to study or become one, but keep in mind that it is difficult and failure has horrible results. Professor McGonagall may help a select number of students but she is a busy lady--so don't pester her.
2.
Can I speak parseltounge?
The answer to this will nearly always be no. The only exceptions are
those that play Harry Potter and Voldemort. If you are new to the RPG
then the answer will defiantly be no. If you have proven yourself a
loyal member of this site, and have proven that you have great
creativity and role-playing skill, then ask an Admin. You will need to
have a good reason as to why to have this ability...not just 'because'.
3. Can I be a teacher?
To be a teacher you will need to play a book character.
4. Can I be a werewolf?
With Admin permission.. unlikely though.
5. Can I be a nonhuman? (Elf, half-elf, half-giant, half-veela, etc)
With Admin permission.. unlikely though.
6. Can I play a
book character?
There is a chance you might be able to. In the Character Descriptions board
there is a thread called Approvals - Book Characters, where you can apply to
become one, if the character is not taken already.
7. Can I have two
characters? More?
Probably not. Certainly not more than two.
8. Can
I play a ghost or a painting?
You can apply in the characters description forum.
9. Can I choose my own house and year?
Yes, but your character must be approved by the Admins, who may recommend that it would suit another house better or that your
role-playing is not advanced enough for the year you requested. Better role-players
will be allowed to choose higher years.
10. Can I be on the Quidditch team?
If you want to be on your house's Quidditch team, you should contact Madam Hooch and your house Quidditch captain via OP to apply. There are only a limited number of positions on each team.
11. Can I be a prefect or Head Boy/Girl?
No.
12. How can I get a boyfriend/girlfriend? I'm desperate!
Your character may have relationships with other characters on the boards through the course of roleplaying, but you may not beg or advertise for a boyfriend/girlfriend, nor may you take the relationship beyond a PG rating. The best way to get a boyfriend or girlfriend is to have your character make friends of the opposite sex--and see where it goes, just like in real life.
Forum/Board Questions
1. Can I become a Mod or Admin?
Laska chooses all mods and admins, usually out of longtime players who are active, helpful, and older. People who ask never get the job.
2. Can I advertise my website?
You must have permission from an admin before advertising any website. If it is a Harry Potter RPG, permission will not be granted. You must post your advertisement only in the appointed thread, nowhere else. This goes for Chat, too.
3. What are OOC and IC?
OOC means Out Of Character, or when you are speaking as yourself, and IC means In Character, when you are speaking from your character's point of view. If you want to speak OOC in an IC post, use double parenthesis (( )) around your OOC comments.
4. What is Owl Post? Can I read all of them?
Owl post is a semi-private, OOC forum you can use to contact other members of the RPG. You may NOT read any OP that is not addressed to or from you.
5. What is the (G3) or (S7) after people's names?
This is their character code. It references what type of character they are, or, if they are a student, their house and year. Gryffindor = G, Hufflepuff = H, Slytherin = S, and Ravenclaw = R. Staff is S, Temporary characters are T, Ghosts are just a G, Death Eaters are DE, and Others are O.
6. Why hasn't my character description been approved?
We have a limited number of people going through character descriptions. Original student characters can be played before they are approved; just be ready to make changes. Other characters and book characters must be approved before you may play them. If you have been asked to change something, do it promptly, and resubmit it to the approval thread, and you will be more likely to be approved next time around. If you want to improve your chances of being approved on the first submission (we like character descriptions that can be approved the first time around, believe me), check out the section on characters on the New Members page.
