I ran into the bathroom as quickly as I could. I just didn’t want to face the fact that maybe Nick and I might actually see each other again. It was very depressing, I mean he never stayed in touch, all those broken promises. As I looked at myself in the mirror, I noticed I had been crying the whole time, even before I left Tiva to run in here. I quickly dried my eyes, and got the smeared mascara off of my face, and returned to my seat with Tiva and Joe.
“What was that all about?” Tiva asked looking at me as the game began. “Nothing, I just was remembering how proud of me my grandfather would’ve been to see me be so successful in going to school and all.” I said lying to my buddy. “Courtney, I know you better than that, so TELL me what’s up.” Tiva said grabbing my shoulders and forcing me to face her. At that moment I started up again, when I was just about to cry someone tapped me on the shoulder. “C-Courtney??” the voice inquired. “I know that voice.” I said in my head. I turned around, and there was Nick in a baseball cap and sunglasses (looking very fine I might add). “Hey, I thought I saw you in the crowd.” Nick said grabbing me and giving me a big hug. “H-hey Nick.” I said. “So, you do remember me??” He asked smiling. “Yea.” I whispered. “Um, Court, will you tell us who your friend is?” Joe asked wrapping his arms around Tiva. “Oh, sorry, um, Tiva, Joe, this is Nick Carter.” I said introducing them. “T-t-the Nick Carter???” Tiva asked. “Yea, hi its nice to meet you.” Nick said giving her his “Carter smile”. Joe gave him a look. “I’m her boyfriend Joseph.” Joe said not cracking a smile. “Excuse us.” I said grabbing Nick and pulling him away from Tiv and Joe.
“Just what in the hell are you doing here?!” I practically screamed when we got out to the concession stand area. “Well, I came to sing the National Anthem, and to try and find you.” Nick said with guilt in his voice. “Why?? Just so you can hurt me again?! Just go away, I don’t need you Nick, not after seven years, you never wrote, called, or anything, you-you-you cant just show up after all this time, and expect me to welcome you with open arms!!!” I said tears running down my face. Its true I had missed him, and had been in love with him….even before he became a Backstreet Boy. “I’m sorry….its true, and you’re absolutely right to be mad at me.” He said. “You’re Damn right!!!” I hollered. “Courtney, just give me a chance to explain, please.” Nick said grabbing my arm. “Get your hands off me, just go away, I don’t need you in my life, not now not ever!!” I cried, and ran off to find Tiva and Joe.
I found Tiva by the bathrooms waiting for Joe to come out. “Courtney, why didn’t you tell me that you knew Nick, you how I love them!” she cried hitting my arm. “Well, there’s a history with him and me, turmoil is more the word, I wanted to tell you, but I just don’t wanna remember those times, I’m sorry.” I said hugging her. “Courtney, why are you hugging me?” she asked. “I cant help it, its so weird that he’s here.” I said looking at her. “Well, I’d take advantage of it, if you two have a history, then there still might be love there.” She said grinning at me. “Not that kind of history, there’s just friendship, that’s all, but he broke a lot of promises to me.” I said tears welling up in my eyes. “And what promises are those?” she asked. “I’ll tell you when we get back to the dorm.” I said pulling her, while she grabbed onto Joe and we headed to the car. “I guess we wont be able to see the rest of the game.” Joe said with disappointment in his voice.
