Chapter 5

“Wake up Kyra!” a voice ringed in Michelle’s ears. “Finally we’re at home.”

“Oh.” She said and sat up. It was one a.m. in the morning and Howie was now gathering his stuff.

“Next destination is your place, you better be quick.” Mumbled he and got out of the room. “The tour must have made them pretty whacked.” She thought. She jumped down from her bunk and found her backpack. But where was her suitcase? Looking around the small room, she saw a duffelbag, with clothes strewn around it. She took a jean in her hands, but it was too big for her. Another shirt. No, this wasn’t hers probably.

“Brian!” she yelled. “I can’t find my suitcase!”

“What?” said Brian entering inside the small room.

“I can’t find my suitcase, or any of my clothes!” she said hurriedly.

“Alright, calm down...” he looked around and yanked an empty duffelbag from the end of the room. “Here it is!” he extending it to Michelle.

“thank you very much but....where are the clothes that were supposed to be inside of it?” she asked innocently.

“This is your problem Ki, you’re messier than the Messy Marvin himself.” He mumbled and went out of the room, leaving Michelle there baffled. After a few minutes later, she could at last gathered some of the clothes she thought that belonged to her.

Finally, they arrived their home. Michelle looked at the detached house carefully, which would be her home for god knows how long.

“Home!” said Brian with relief once they entered inside. “I though this day would never come.” He plopped down on the couch in the living room. Michelle sat next to him hesitantly. She had felt herself a little strange. What was she supposed to do right now? What to say? Where was her room?

“Since the tour starts in two days, I suggest not to go back to Kentucky, what do you think?” spoke her brother.

“Uhm...it’s okay with me...”

“Don’t you wanna see mom and dad?” asked Brian suspiciously. Kyra was acting differently but he interpereted it as the tour’s fatigue.

Michelle, on the other hand, was thinking what to say. “It’s not a problem, really.”

“Alrighty then.” He stood up and stretched. Yawning, he mumbled a soft “goodnight” and lazily climbed up the stairs.

Michelle sighed deeply as she moved her eyes around the living room. It was more of a family home. Comparing to her house, it was decorated more like in a country style. Then she remebered that Brian was from Kentucky. She had liked what she saw. The room was not so big, but everything was placed wisely. She smiled to herself. “This is what i call home.” Then she stood up, her eyes stuck on a shade outside. Frightened, she walked closer to the window and looked closely. Yes, it was a man standing in front of the gate. As she watched, the man walked down the path and within seconds the doorbell rang. Michelle let out a slight scream and she put a hand on her chest. She was thinking of calling Brian for a second when she heard a soft but yet a familiar voice coming from the door.

“C’mon...open it...” the man on the door grumbled.

In the silence of the night, Michelle could easily hear the voice. She quickly walked over the door.

“Nick, is that you?” she whispered.

“God, finally. Yeah, it’s damn me, now open the door!” he commanded.

“Alright, alright.” Said Michelle, fighting with the keylock. When she succeed, Nick dove inside, bumping into Michelle.

“Why that damn streetlight doesn’t work?” he asked angrily, as e dropped his duffelbag in the middle of the hall.

“Do i look like major?” she snapped.

“Look,I don’t have the time and the heart to argue with you. My parents ain’t at home and i had to come here in the middle of the night, the taxi driver was a total freak, besides that damn street light wasn’t working so it gave me goosebumps to walk all the way in the dark and i’m very tired and i just wanna SLEEP!” he told in one breath. Michelle laughed inwardly the way he got scared of the dark.

“Ok, i’ll prepare your bed in the living room...” she tried to calm him down.

“What are you talking about? I’m gonna sleep in your room, you have an extra bed up there!” said Nick, heading towards the stairs but Michelle held him by arm and pulled him.

“What? In no way you can sleep in my room! It’s against my principles!”

“Principles? Are you crazy man??” Nick yelled, trying to rescue his arm by the way. Brian’s sleep was too heavy to hear any of this war.

“I said NO!” she yelled angrily.

“Fine man, whatever.” Mumbled he meekly. He wasn’t in the mood for a fight with Kyra, besides, for some good reason she seemed extremely serious. The normal Kyra would always let him sleep in her room. Was it that time of the month again? 1
