The silhouettes of two young adults walked hand in hand along the side walk towards the main entrance of the apartment block. Stopping under the street light they turned to each other, the orange glow reflecting off the damp concrete underneath them.
“Here we are” Brian said, acknowledging Kiley’s apartment above them.
“Here we are” she replied softly, wishing the night wasn’t over already. “Brian, I enjoyed tonight, thank you”
“It’s okay” he smiled “I did too.”
Kiley, surprised at how relaxed she still felt with him, reached up and placed her hands lightly on his chest, feeling his firm muscles under his thin blue shirt. There was a silence between them, but in no way was it awkward. Brian looked down at her, a smile on his face, thinking how truly amazing she was. Catching her eye, they stared at each other for a minute, their eyes speaking volumes before he slowly moved his face down towards her, kissing her lightly on the lips.
Lori pulled into the car lot and drove into a space before turning off the engine. Climbing out of her jeep she locked the door, turning to make her way towards her apartment block. She stopped when she was two people standing under the lamp in front of the door. “Kiley” she mused, a smile appearing on her face as she recognised the mass of curls.
As he kissed her, he moved one hand so it was resting on the small of her back, the other sweeping her hair out of the way, keeping it on the back of her neck. Relaxing in his arms, Brian deepening the kiss as she moved her hands from his chest up and round his neck. They remained in that position for a while longer, sharing a passionate kiss before they broke away and smiled at each other, their eyes still locked, Brian’s arms still round her.
Kiley stepped away, entwining his fingers in hers. “I’d better go” she explained softly, hating leaving him, but she had to be up early the next morning.
“I’ll call you?” Brian asked, gazing into her hazel eyes which were constantly smiling at him.
“You’d better” she laughed, dropping his hands and turning to leave, leaving him standing alone, a shadow under the light beaming down on the glistening pavement. * * *
“Hey there Kiley” Lori said, bursting into their apartment.
“Hi” Kiley replied, grabbing herself a coke from the kitchen.
“You look very nice” Lori commented, looking up and down at Kiley’s three quarter length shirt and smart jeans. “Bet Brian liked it”
“What?”
“I bet Brian found you very attractive” Lori repeated, seeing how long she could tease her friend for.
“What do you mean?” Kiley asked, feeling redness rise in her cheeks.
Lori smothered a giggle at the look on Kiley’s face.
“Were you ever going to tell me?!” she finally burst out, unable to keep in what she’d just witnessed downstairs. “You and Brian down stairs!”
“Oh, that” Kiley said, a slight smile appearing on her face.
“Well! How long have you had me in the dark?! How long have you two been getting ‘rather friendly’ for?”
“Last night” Kiley informed her.
“Aww, that is so sweet! He must have missed you!” Lori exclaimed, rushing over to her and pulling her into a warm embrace. “I’m so happy for you!”
Kiley laughed at her friend’s over enthusiastic response. “Thanks Lori.”
“Well, I told you so didn’t I!”
“Yeah, you did, and I’ll admit, I was wrong”
Lori pulled back and looked at her, a look of mock surprise on her face. “Oooh, you’ve got it bad for him... you’ve just admitted you were wrong! I’m in shock” she teased, placing her hand on her chest.
“Shut up Lori” Kiley laughed, punching her playfully in the arm, heading off to her room, a contended smile on her face as she replayed the night’s evens through her mind.
