CHAPTER FIVE
Sweet Goodbyes

“Yeah, I’m going up home for a week” Kiley said, shoving clothes into her hold-all. “Apparently my mom’s missing me” she added, making Brian laugh.

“I can imagine” he chuckled.

“Shall I pick you up and take you to the airport? I’m leaving for New York Friday morning”

Kiley smiled at his offer. “Please, if you wouldn’t mind”

“I wouldn’t have asked” he said. “I’ll see you then?”

“Yeah, I better go, stuff to pack”

“Oh yeah, I forgot. The three suitcases, fifty pairs of shoes, ten different dresses....” Brian teased, making Kiley laugh.

“Haa-haa” she laughed before hanging up. “See you Friday”

They jumped out the truck as Brian pulled into the parking lot, both of them grabbing their own bags. Brian’s sun glasses and hat made sure no one would be able to recognise him.

Weaving their way through the crowds they checked in, stopping in a quiet corner waiting for their flights to be called. Kiley’s was an hour before Brian’s but he’d offered to keep her company, going to meet the guys once she’d left.

“Calling flight 1-7-9 to Birmingham, Alabama” came a crackly voice over the intercom system.

“Well, that’s me” Kiley said, picking up her bag. “I’ll see you next week?”

“Yeah, have a great time.”

“You too” she added as she stood facing him. Catching her gaze and their eyes met, locking for only a second, but a second too long.

“See you later” Kiley said hurriedly, turning away.

“Yeah, see you” Brian said softly, watching her walk to the exit, once she’d turned the corner, picking up his backpack and making his way to find the rest of the fellas.

The white limo sped along the highway, making it’s way to New York City. Brian sat and looked out the tinted window, watching the buildings fly by, the trees and the sky becoming a blur.

I wonder what Kiley would think of this? he wondered, his thoughts returning to her once again. He was surprised by how much he had missed her, and hearing her voice the night before had made him think about her even more. All week he had been trying to tell him self he was fine with their relationship at the minute, just friends but to no avail.

Kiley sat and starred out of the window of her parent’s living room, watching the rain drip down the window.

This is pathetic she thought, fed up of the rain they’d had all day. The sky was a murky grey colour, making the street look like it was dusk, but in reality it was only three in the afternoon. I bet it ain’t raining like this in New York she mused, her thoughts going to Brian once again.

I miss him she thought, remembering his amazing smile and sparkling blue eyes which she knew once she saw them there would be a smile back on her face. She had surprised her self by how much she’d missed him.

As she watched the large drops of rain run down the window she realised just like the rain drops, she was falling. She was falling for Brian and she knew there was no way she could stop. 1
