CHAPTER THREE
Slam Dunk Da Funk

Brian dropped down onto the bench and pulled his baseball cap off his head, ran his hand through his damp hair and placed it back again. He looked up to watch Kiley walk towards him, dressed in grey sweat pants and a vest top, hair pulled back into a lose pony tail. He sat and stared, amazed by how sexy he found her, even just dressed like that. Startled from his private thoughts he caught the ball she threw at him and looked at her as she sat next to him.

“Well, I think I beat ya fair and square!” she announced, grinning proudly.

“Really? That’s only ‘cause I let you” he replied, hating the fact she had beaten him.

“No, I beat you. Face it Brian. You got beat by a woman. Hate to break it to you! Had to happen sooner or later, and it just so happens, it was by me”

“No you didn’t win, I let you”

“Did win”

“Didn’t”

“Did”

“Didn’t, but you believe what you want to believe, I know the truth” he said standing up and heading towards the exit, dribbling the ball in front of him.

Jogging to catch up, Kiley fell into step beside him. “I still know I won, that’s the real truth”

“What ever” he said, pretending he didn’t really care.

The door opened into an empty apartment as Kiley and Brian entered, both of them dropping their bags on the floor. “Brian, how come, even though I have only hung out with you twice, you always make me so tired!?” she asked, collapsing onto the couch.

Brian shrugged, sat down next to her and watched as she lay with her head back, eyes shut. “I’m an energetic guy”

“You’re telling me! Want food?” she asked sitting up.

“Food would be good” Kiley went into the kitchen and rummaged round for anything worth eating, returning with an armful of snacks.

“This is all I’ve got I’m afraid” she apologised dumping the packages down in front of them.

“Don’t matter. Anything edible is fine” he said grinning, tucking into a large packet of chips. They ate in silence, both thinking the same thing without realising. They were both thinking how well they had been getting along, how relaxed the both felt and how much they liked each other’s company. Something Brian found strange was their conversations had never turned to his career, something which made hanging out with Kiley all worthwhile. She was getting to know him for who he really was, something not many people did, and it made him feel normal and kind of special. 1
