Newspaper Training Okay, everyone knows that the first stage of housetraining a puppy is training her to go on newspaper. But how do you do that? Put the pup in a small area and cover the entire area with newspaper. Every time she goes, she'll be on paper. Over the next few weeks, slowly give her less paper, praising her if she uses the paper, and repapering the entire area if she uses uncovered floor. Continue this and she'll soon get the idea that you want her to use the paper, not the floor. There is a thorough description of puppy housetraining at Pets and Life - Click Here |

Top Cat ~ A Multiple Cat Household has a definite social structure. Sometimes it's easy to see which cat is dominant, but sometimes it can be difficult to tell. One way to determine who's in charge is to put out a bowl of something tasty. Chances are good that the first cat to eat will be the dominant cat, and the last the most submissive. Knowing who fits where in the feline social structure may help you better understand how your cats think. Click-Feline Behavior explains the complex behavior of cats. |
Too Much Of A Good Thing Most cats love to be petted and cuddled, but bear in mind that you have to pet in an appropriate manner. Some cats find excessive or unwanted petting intensely stressful. A good indicator is the cat's tail - if it starts thrashing while you're stroking him, chances are the cat isn't enjoying the cuddle. Like humans, cats have individual comfort zones when it comes to physical interaction. Some can take much more love than others. Stressed cats need to be calmed. Outdoor Cats, Indoor Spraying Indoor cats that suddenly start spraying and marking may be reacting to the presence of other cats they can see outdoors. If outdoor cats are habitual visitors to your house, your cat may see them through the windows. This "invasion" of what he sees as his territory may cause your cat to mark his territory. By marking, he's reaffirming that his indoor turf is in fact his (or hers). You can try making your yard less attractive to visiting outdoor cats - motion activated sprinklers for example. You could also use drapes or blinds to prevent your cat from looking out of windows where he can see other cats. Spraying and Marking helps you understand this aspect of cat behavior ~ Click Here |
Keep It Fresh It's cheaper to buy PET FOOD in bulk, but if you do, don't store it in the original bag. Once opened, moisture can get into the bag, ruining the food. The kibble also slowly loses its freshness and flavor once exposed to open air, so that by the time you've reached the bottom of the bag, it's less tasty than when fresh. Pests can also get into an open bag. Instead, transfer the kibble into a container with a lid that can be closed tightly. This will extend the life of the food. |
