Profiles / Biographies

The following quote is taken from Sony Pictures website for Get on the Bus (Columbia Pictures).

"Get On the Bus marks ROGER GUENVEUR SMITH's (Gary) fourth collaboration with Spike Lee. Smith created the stuttering hero "Smiley" in Lee's Do The Right Thing. The actor was also featured in Malcolm X and School Daze. Smith's other film credits include Bill Duke's Deep Cover, John Singleton's Poetic Justice, Abel Ferrara's King of New York, Mario Van Peebles's Panther and Rusty Cundieff's Tales From the Hood. On television, Smith appeared in an adaptation of Walter Mosely's Fearless for Showtime's acclaimed Fallen Angels series and had a recurring role as Professor Randolph in the hit NBC series A Different World. Smith's extensive theatre background includes a string of critically-acclaimed performance pieces which grew out of his dual passions for acting and American history: "Frederick Douglass Now," "Christopher Columbus 1992" and "Inside the Creole Mafia." His most recent solo work, the award-winning "A Huey P. Newton Story," has already enjoyed nationwide acclaim and will play in Baltimore and Washington D.C. this fall, and make its off-Broadway debut at the Public Theatre in February. Smith, who studied at the Yale School of Drama, has presented his work at the New York Shakespeare Festival, the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles and the Acters Theatre of Louisville."
