This I Believe
Ever since I can remember going to school there has always been different groups of friends. Sometimes one of these groups is considered the “cool” kids and others are considered “dorks.” I believe that there is no such group as the “cool” kids or the “popular” kids, but just different groups of friends who enjoy different things.
What makes a group of kids cool? Is it the way they dress, act or talk? I have never understood this, but the one thing that has always bugged me is hearing people call others dorks or losers behind their backs. What gives them the right to say these things? What makes them cooler than the other guy? I believe that answer is nothing, but it all depends on how you see “cool.”
Just because someone is not your friend and doesn’t share your interests doesn’t make them a dork. Just the other day a friend of mine was making fun of kids who enjoy playing computer games. I then told him how I myself love computer games, and play them all the time, “Does that mean your too cool to be my friend now?” I asked while laughing. Of course were still friends but it just goes to show how different people are into different things and that doesn’t make them any more or less cool. I think all kids have their own coolness to them, and when you begin to believe otherwise you may be loosing an opportunity to make a new friend or even loose the possibility to become friends with everyone, not just your little confined group that you feel secure in.
