Autobiography
My name is Haley Hitter. I am from a small town called Lockhart, Texas. My parents are Robert and Julie Hitter and I also have a younger brother named Ryan. Both of my parents are teachers. My mom teaches Home Economics and my dad teaches Texas History. Not only are my parents teachers, most of my aunts and uncles are teachers as well. Growing up I always wanted to pursue a career that was different from what my family did. But after thinking long and hard, I knew that teaching was in my blood and it was something that I was good at. Growing up my parents strongly believed in extracurricular activities. As soon as I reached third grade I joined 4-H. I was really excited to join because I always enjoyed watching the stock shows. What I didn’t know was that there was so much more than walking an animal out into a ring. Throughout my time in 4-H I showed rabbits as my animal project. I never experienced showing larger animals because of the fact that we lived in town. Rabbits were a good choice for me because while my mom and her siblings were in 4-H they also showed rabbits, so we had a pretty good idea of how this process worked. Not only did I participate in an animal project I participated in other projects such as Consumer Judging, Clothing and Textiles, Food and Nutrition and I also completed a record book every year. I also held many offices such as Vice President and President of my club. While in 4-H, I enjoyed going to the many camps that they offered such as Leadership Lab. This taught me that there are other people out there doing the same thing as me. It also taught me to become more social and to become more of a leader. At the end of my 4-H career I received the 4-H Gold Star Award. This award is the highest County 4-H achievement award that 4-H members can receive. I developed skills to become more social and how to manage my time with school and extracurricular activities. I also learned to become a leader which has helped me tremendously throughout the years. During High School I applied for many colleges and universities. The only one that stuck out in my mind was Texas A&M University. I was fortunate enough to be apart of the provisional program, which required me to attend A&M the summer before the regular school semester started. During my first few semesters I was a General Studies Major because I wasn’t quite sure what I wanted to do with my life. During one semester, I enrolled in an Ag Life Science class. I enjoyed taking this class because I have always been interested in Agriculture. One day in class we had a guest speaker come and speak to us about the Ag Science program. After listening to all of the things they did and had to offer, I knew that this was the route for me. I knew at that time teaching and being around students was what I wanted to do. I just completed my Student Teaching at Katy High School and found it to be quite an adventure. The Katy FFA Chapter is an awesome organization that is very involved There were many things that I experienced that will definitely help me in the future. I appreciate that they let me share my student teaching experience with them. I am eager to finish my time here at A&M and begin my career as and Agricultural Science Teacher. I am ready to experience all that I can with the activities that come with being an Ag Science teacher. I am looking forward to working with students as well as be apart agriculture. I have enjoyed all of the experiences that I have been apart of whether in 4-H, Texas A&M, or Katy, Texas. I feel that they have helped me through several things in life and will keep helping me in the things to come.
