"What Can We Learn From Amanda?"

Our world is one of the most complex and detailed atmospheres that God has created. However, unlike other planets, this place that we call Earth is the only one that is inhabited by human beings. This tremendous variation is one of many aspects that add to the characterization of the world. Clearly we as a people are unique and are our own person as well. However, this predetermined individuality that we uphold allows us to possess a tendency to relate ourselves to one another and learn from each other in such a way that will benefit our lives. Amanda, who is introduced to us in the film “What the Bleep do we Know,” portrays a clear persona of an individual who at first judges the present by the past experiences and encounters but changes her view of aspects in the world, as she examines herself as well as others in a positive manner. Her physical being, mental progress and overall openness are supportive features that guides her newfound focus and serves as an inspiration to us as viewers, to learn from our personal examination and retain information from Amanda.

Amanda’s physical being is one that is an important factor that highlights self-confidence and integrity. In our world some people who have physical disorders lack confidence and live in denial. They essentially adopt the ability to lie to themselves, by convincing oneself that their ability is limited. This way of thinking not only limits accomplishments in life but also “robs” one from gaining the willingness to view the world in a mindset similar to Amanda’s, after her many encounters with inner consciousness. In addition to this, some individuals accept the fact that they cannot maneuver without assistance. Not to say that a little help isn’t beneficial but the fact that their lives are based on it and shows no evidence of change. In essence we are accustomed to it and it is the only thing that seems real to when regarding an effort of being independent at times. By examining the characteristics of Amanda, individuals who may obtain physical disorders can learn from Amanda and her lifestyle. By starting with yourself personally, in my thoughts, it makes it more beneficial when one begins to examine the world around them. It serves as a sense of fulfillment knowing that you are comfortable with who you are and when this occurs, analyzing the world around you becomes more meaningful.

The mentality of Amanda is one that can be depicted as an inner journey, as she travels through her past and continuously improves in the future. This journey that we are able to view in the film, is one that consists of her faults, which leads to false judgments as well as her examination of conscience that leads to a change of heart, concerning her previous view of the world and individuals. Upon this exploration are important characters such as the young basketball player, who asks questions and gives advice to Amanda. This beneficial imagery is one that challenges her to use her mind on a deeper aspect grasping more values of the world around her. Her mentality introduces us to yet another learning experience that involves our world as well as the individuals within it. It is one that we can easily take heed to, attaching it to our present understanding. Following our personal examination we can properly apply this mentality to ourselves, as we seek beneficial advice from those who may have experienced an aspect prior to the time that we encountered it. Amanda’s mentality leads to its relation with the act of being open.

Openness, in this case, was formed through the combination of the positive acceptation of physicality and mentality. In the film, Amanda first experiences openness before acting upon it. As she becomes open in all aspects she is comfortable with her accomplishments and confident that the route she chose to achieve them was right. Her ability to be open is essentially the most important because it presents openings that permit Amanda to step beyond her comfort zone. She has adopted the capability to expand her thoughts to others as they proclaim their ideas to her. She is no longer enclosed in past mindsets that prevented her from being open but is willingly exposed o receiving new information. Which, in my eyes, is a great aspect to a healthy life. 1
