Journal 3 The Morality of Jesus
1. One paragraph summary of the key idea of the section.
The key idea about the morality of Jesus presented in this section is his Commandment to love thy neighbor and to love God with all of my mind, body and spirit. Jesus concentrated on the social aspect of service. The center of this lay on the basis of judgement of the souls, by emphasizing what one has done for the needy or poor. In addition to this prominent teaching and judgement, Jesus desired and commanded that we take heed to the 10 commandments utilizing them in such a way as to serve as guidance for our lives.Within the many teachings that Jesus distributed were the Sermon on the Mount, the primary focus in this section, and other teachings that correlated to this sole counsel. This serves as the key idea of the section due to the fact that it is prominent in the instructions of Jesus. It is a guideline that He emphasizes which is prominent when concerning that act of doing the will of God.
2. List and explain three of the most important ides you want to remember from this week.
C.S. Lewis' Law of Humnan Nature-The Law of Human Nature is an idea derived from a book entitled Mere Christianity written by C.S. Lewis. Though this particular idea holds various titles, whether it be Moral Law or Rule of Decent Behavior, each share the same meaning and outlooks. Essentially it is the idea that just as other aspects are governed by their laws, for example the "law of gravitation" or "biological laws" (p.18), the Law of Human Nature governs the law of man. However unlike other laws, under this Law man possesses the ability to choose to obey or disobey the Law of Human Nature. This idea is one that is worth retaining due to the fact that it illustrates a similarity or common trait among all people. This similarity is that the "human idea of decent behaviour" was obvious to all. This supports the reasoning behind its title, in that individuals "thought that every one knew it by nature and did not need to be taught it" (p.18). It serves as beneficial when attempting to discover, essentially, a middle ground between all cultures and nations. Though there are many differences that individualizes each culture or nation, there lies a similarity that, in a way, conjoins one to the other into a type of agreement. It is a stance portrayed by all and from this reasoning it is one that is beneficial to retain.
B)"Admitting one's need for forgiveness"- This is an aspect that is important to not only retain but practice. The qoute extracted from William J. O' Malley's "The Moral Practice of Jesus" is one that is essential to our lives as we attempt to grow closer to God. It inherently means the willingness of "opening the eyes and submitting to the cure of blindness." In other words rejecting the stubbornness of not repenting and turning away from the old ways that led to that act of repentance. In addition this prominent aspect is exemplified within the bible with the stories of The Womam Known as a Sinner (Lk 7:36-50), The Adulterous Woman (Jn. 8:1-11), The Samaritan Woman (Jn. 4:4-40) and the Prodigal Son (Lk.15:11-32). Each of these entail the importance of realizing not only your faults in action but the message of one's utter need for forgiveness. It serves as a vital reminder in our personal lives as well. It encourages us to admit our need for forgiveness when at fault and reassures the benefit of it as pleasing in the eyes of God.
C)Third Section of Sermon on the Mount: Almsgiving, Prayer, Fasting- These three aspects highlighted within Jesus' Sermon on the Mount, are essential when trying to do the Will of God as he instructs it. The primary idea behind these acts of faith is to practice these not for public display but for one's sincerity and obedience to God the Father. Jesus teaches that God rewards those who show reverence to Him, rather than themselves in hopes of gaining "public notoriety." In the act of almsgiving, Jesus teaches that one should give freely and become "free from religious showiness." Concerning prayer, Jesus highlights the rejection of personal attention as a result of prayer. Though it is not forbidden to pray in public it is beneficial to do so privately. Individuals possess prayer closets where one is able to solely concentrate and fellowship with the Heavenly Father. The third, fasting, is another that supports the rejection of personal attention. Jesus teaches that disgusing one's fast serves as genuine to God due to the fact that God already knows your intentions. Each of these acts of faith serve as important personally, as it encourages the act of being humble. By submitting myself to the Will of God the Father, I exemplify the teachings if Jesus.

4.What is a Christian? Are you a Christian? A Christian is someone who believes and has faith in God. Also that God's only begotten Son Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior who died and rose again for my salvation and is to come again. A Christian is one who studies the Word of God and applies it to his life. A Christian is a praying individual who worships God the Father for the many blessings that He bestowed upon us in our lives. He is an individual who praises God even in the perilous times and has faith that He will bring us through that time. He/She follows the teachings of Jesus and thinks of them as the guidelines to living a righteouess life. Yes I am a Christian and the teachings of Jesus effects my morality as it serves as a guideline leading me in the direction that He knows is right.
5. What can a person do to make themselves a better Christian? To improve one's Christianity I think that one needs to continue to stay in the Word while praying in reverence to God. To help those who are less fortunate in a way that exceed personal satisfaction.
