In the concluding segment of an ending semester the primary focus was highlighted through the title of this particular faith course which is "Jesus, Model of Faith, Model of Humanity." Upon examination, it primarily illustrated how and why belief in God exists as well as the existence of God himself. Two main categories are those of the "Knowledge of God via the natural world," and the "Knowledge of God via the human person." In addition to this is an observation of Jesus and how it fully exemplifies true Faith and humanity. The first attempts to support this belief by illustrating analogies, such as William Paley's "Watch and the Watchmaker", various arguments that included those of Kalam, Plato and Aquinas' arguments, as well as "The Anthropic Principle" and "Pascal's Wager". Though each of these adopts different routes they each try to suffice the primary goal that is focused on. In addition to this the "Knowledge of God via the human person" is another response to this important question of God. However this aspect seems to be more in tune, when concerning we as a people, due to the fact that it clearly is a more direct relation to us and our lives. As it attempts to support the question of God it highlights three key arguments; argument from religious experience, argument from conscience and the argument from natural law. Each of these arguments obviously explain different aspects but each of them are categories that emphasizes human needs, intellect etc. This in turn provides a deeper and more meaningful understanding when determining how humans can be viewed as instruments, to better learn about God and his purpose for ones life. The third aspect that deals with th question of God is our savior Jesus Christ. However this aspect does not primarily focus on Jesus' divine nature but delves deeper into Jesus as a human. As one journeys into this aspect it is appropriate to become accustomed to the gospels as well as other individual sources written by tose today. The writings of William o' Malley's "Understanding Jesus," "The Jews News" and Monika Hellwig's "Finding God in All Things" were main assets in trying to better understand Jesus as a human person.
2. List and explain three of the most important ideas you want to remember from this week.
a)Mans Need for Meaning- This specific category is a subtopic under the argument from religious experience which is highlighted in the "Knowledge of God via the human person." This was not only an interesting aspect but it is something that is essential to one's thinking, due to the fact that it encourages us to, first, think about what it is attempting to emphasize as well having the yearning to do something positive with my life. Philosphers like Kierkegard examined this as something that is encouraging to the human person. In addition to this it is an attribute or a characteristic that can't be essentially man-made and distributed which further supports the belief that God does indeed exist and he truly has a purpose for each individual's life.
b)The Five Basic Inclinations Of Human Nature- This is an aspect that highlights categories that attempts to seek the greatest good which is God. The first inclination is "to seek happiness" (FRR p.170) which essentially pertains to the eternal greater good which is to be with God. The other illustrates how one is always striving to survive because it is in this where one can "experience goodness" (FRR p.170). The preservation of sexual unity adds to these implications due to the fact that the gift of sexual intercourse "propogates the human race, an incredible good" (FRR p.170). The fourth is to live in community with others as it exemplifies a "human nature" (FRR p.171) or "outgrowth" (FRR p.171) which highlights a greater good because it allows one to expand positively in a social manner. The fifth relates to our thoughts, in essence our ability to "use intellect and will; to know the truth and to make free decions" (FRR p.171). This is of greater good as it is derived from the greatest good, which is God, due to the fact that He gives us free will. These are important aspects that I want to remeber because it serves as a reminder of how we are blessed even before we are aware of the blessing. It presents a better understanding which always serves as beneficial in our lives.
c)William O' Malley's "Understanding Jesus"- This is a work that I want to remember due to the fact that it offers a clear portrait of the human Jesus in such a way that makes it easier to portray. It attempts to not only break down some of the doctrines of Jesus but it tries to illustrate his personality as well as his physique, based on information that applied to Jesus.
3.One or two good images that remind you of key ideas.
