In this section we focused on the importance and consequences of an individual who examines his/her life and those who do not. On the positive end an examined life is the essence of analyzing your inner self and asking questions such as; "Am I proud of my current position and how can I constantly improve it?" The unexamined life is when individuals live day in and day out not really caring what happens and simply living the regular pattern. Examples of this would be Deon Sanders and Eric Clapton. Early in their lives they lived the unexamined life, allowing their decisions to lead them in the wrong route. However they realized their faults and began to live an examined life as they focused on getting back on track.
What is the difference between an opinion, belief and a fact? Answering the question we learned that an opinion is something from the top of our heads that allows room for discussion and isn't necessarily right or wrong, a belef is something that has ideas and evidence to back it up. A fact is indisputable. Though I learned this through class discussion, what really stayed with me was the way in which I learned this. It wasn't that I didn't know what they meant, the key idea was the fact that I analyzed it for the first time and actually deciphered the words. This is worthwhile because in reality many individuals don't take the time to think about aspects like opinions, beliefs or facts. Instead they act upon them in a way that is suitable to them and through my examination of these words I will now be able to distribute them properly.
In my life am I like the boat without a rutter that Aristotle depicts? In theology we examined Aristotle's metaphor as we compared our lives to the ship and it's rutter. We asked ourselves; "Am I in control of my life or do we allow others to control us?" By asking this question we not only looked at how other people view us but how we view ourselves. Asking this question is extremely beneficial because it allows us to stay focused when trying to stay on the right track.
What is the greatest commandment that Jesus taught us? Jesus taught me to love God with all my heart, soul, and mind. This is the key idea because it is one of the most important things that we as humans will do in God's eyes.It pushes us each day to willingly live as God would approve and while doing so thanking Him for the ability to love as he loves.
3. One good image that reminds me of key ideas.
4. One good question I will keep with me to ponder.
Am I fully focusing on the essence of real leraning? If I am how do I apply it in reality in a way that will benefit me throughout my life.
5.What should I try to do to make myself a better person, a more faithful person, from this study?
I will try to apply the teachings of Socrates in examining my life ranging from important decisions to the simplest of them which will benefit me greatly and expand my knowledge everyday. I've begun this process through my examine of consciousness at school... So I'm off to a pretty good start I think!
