Despite Lucasfilm's suggestion that the process of finding a new Anakin Skywalker began last weekend with a series of screentests, the search is reportedly over.
Variety reports that the next star warrior will be Toronto-born Hayden Christensen, whose previous credits include the Fox Family Channel's "Higher Ground" and the TV movie "Trapped In A Purple Haze."
Earlier this week, the official "Star Wars" site announced that Lucas and his staff had conducted screen tests last weekend with a number of hopefuls and said the process was underway to determine who would portray Anakin in "Episode II," as he makes his transition into Darth Vader.
But Variety says Lucas is close to announcing that Christensen will get the role, although neither the actor's representatives nor Lucasfilm sources returned the magazine's calls.
