“The Kids Stay In The Picture” 3.24.2000

“From here there is no place that does not see you. You must change your life.” – Rainer Maria Rilke
Summary written by: Ly

Peter’s ex-wife shows a demo of a video for Horizon. Sophie and Peter feels that the demo doesn’t actually live up to what Horizon is all about. Scott awaits to meet with child protective services about his situation with his stepmother. He starts to have flashback of his past and what happened between him and his stepmother. He walks back wishing that everything could be all over with.

Child Protective services finally show up to talk to Scott. Shelby shows up and wishes to talk to Scott before they begin talking to him. You guys probably wanna know what went on with their conversation so I’ll include it once more.
Shelby: So.. how you feeling? Scott: Just want to get over it. Done. Shelby: I heard somewhere the truth will set you free. Probably in church. Scott: You go to church? Shelby: Ah huh. Shelby: No one ever really knows.. what it makes you feel like about what happened. How wrong it is. You told me and that took guts. Tell them. And she walks away as Scott looks up towards the ceiling getting ready to spill it all to CPS.

Meanwhile, the rest of the cliffhangers watch as the director makes a fool of what Horizon is all about with overpaid actors. They’re all annoyed at how it doesn’t portray Horizon at all and how the actors don’t even look like them. The cliffhangers are set to be the extras in the commercial who play flag football. Ezra and Daisy come up with an idea to make their own video if the director would give them some film and a camera.

Scott was put on video and asked really provoking questions that disturbed him a lot. CPS talk to Scott’s stepmother and find out that Scott had written letters to her. This turned the case around making her the victim instead of Scott and it killed Scott that she was lying about the truth to save her ass. Daisy and Ezra follow the cliffhangers as they come along with their everyday lives. Scott breaks down when he finds out that Elaine showed CPS his letters. He couldn’t even talk to Shelby anymore. He didn’t want to talk to anyone.

The rest of the gang try to find a way to cheer Scott up but he doesn’t seem to want to do anything. They decided to play some tag football with the actors and kick some butt. They got pretty dirty rough housing with the others. Scott almost had a chance to catch the ball but drops it because he lost all confidence in doing anything at all.

The director shows the students at Horizon their commercial and asks what they think of it. They all laugh and ask for the purpose of the commercial. The director responds by saying the commercial is try to advertise a safe school for teens with problems. The kids respond by asking the director if he knew what each and every one of their problems were.

Ezra and Daisy try to come up with a way to portray the students at Horizon by taking the pile of film they’ve recorded and making it into a masterpiece. Scott finally cools down and tells Shelby the whole story of why he wrote her those letters. He then tells her he did it because he though his stepmother loved him. Shelby responds by saying she once thought that a person loved her too but physically hurt her. That seemed to make Scott feel a lot better as she walks away.

Daisy and Ezra introduce the film they made to the students at Horizon. Clips of all their hardship they’ve faced and the outcome which were good and bad were combine to make a beautiful film as Scott played the piano while the movie showed. Peter then tells Scott at the end of the movie that he will be there for Scott and that he won’t let Scott’s stepmother hide behind her lies. As Peter leaves Scott turns around and hugs Shelby.
