41. The Crush The Ropers introduce Jack, Janet, and Chrissy to a fourteen-year-old girl named Laurie, who is depressed because her mother is getting re-married. Janet and Chrissy bore Laurie, but she loves Jack and thinks he's funny. Later, a telegram comes for Janet and Chrissy telling them to go to their local yacht club. Janet and Chrissy think their dentist is the one who sent the telegram, and the two of them leave. Then, while Jack and Laurie are alone, Jack's girlfriend Rita comes over. Jack tries to get Laurie to go away, when suddenly, Janet and Chrissy come home saying that there was no invitation to any party after all. They accuse Jack of making a fake telegram just to get them out of the house to be alone with Rita. Janet and Chrissy then go to the Regal Beagle while Jack has a talk with Laurie. She explained that she sent the fake telegram and only did it because she loves him. Jack is touched by that, but asks Laurie to apologize to Janet and Chrissy. They then think that Jack told Laurie to do that only to cover up for himself. Then, Mrs. Roper comes upstairs with Laurie where she finally tells the truth, and also reveals that she has found herself a boyfriend her age. AIRDATE: November 21, 1978 |

42. The Kleptomaniac Janet says she is missing her gold pen that her parents bought her for her graduation. Then later, as Jack is standing on a ladder helping Mr. Roper paint the outside of the apartment building, he sees Chrissy take money out of his drawer. What he DIDN'T see was that Mrs. Roper asked Chrissy if she could borrow some cash for a C.O.D. Chrissy knew Jack wouldn't mind so she took the money out of his drawer. Jack knew nothing about this and told Janet about Chrissy taking his money. Jack and Janet fear that Chrissy is becoming a kleptomaniac because of this stealing. To make things even worse, Chrissy shows off her brand new purse to Jack and Janet and comes in wearing Mrs. Roper's shawl that Mr. Roper bought her for their anniversary. Then, Mr. Roper comes upstairs and Jack and Janet try to hide Chrissy from him because they fear that he will be angry when he sees Chrissy wearing his wife's shawl. So, Janet takes the shawl from Chrissy and hides it in the refrigerator. Jack and Janet think everything will be okay, that is, until Mr. Roper goes into the kitchen for a drink! He opens the refrigerator, sees the shawl inside, but does not even say anything. Later, Mrs. Roper comes up and pays Chrissy back for the money she borrowed earlier. Chrissy then returns the money to Jack. Mrs. Roper also explains that she let Chrissy borrow her shawl. Jack and Janet then ask Chrissy about her new purse and she tells them she used her credit card. But, Janet's gold pen was still missing. Then, Chrissy tells Jack that she typed his job papers for him. Jack becomes excited to sign them, where he takes a pen out of his pocket…Janet's gold graduation pen. AIRDATE: November 28, 1978 |

Janet suggests that he clean up the apartment and dress up nicely because she will call Mrs. Roper and tell her that he wants her back. As Stanley waits for Helen, the doorbell rings. He is expecting Helen, but it is Mrs. Hollins from the pet shop. She comes over to give Mr. Roper the bird seed he bought at her store, but left there. Then Helen comes back and sees Mrs. Hollins. 44. Eleanor's Return Jack comes home from cooking school one day and hears somebody in the shower. He figures it is either Janet or Chrissy, and needs to tell them his good news that he passed his cooking exam. When he goes into the bathroom, it is not Janet or Chrissy, but is a woman with red hair who knows his name. The woman says that her name is Eleanor Phillips. Jack still doesn't know who she is, until she says that her maiden name was Eleanor Garvey. Jack finally realizes who this woman is…she was Janet and Chrissy's old roommate, Eleanor. She was in town visiting and Mr. Roper let her into the apartment. Janet and Chrissy then come home and Jack tells them he has two surprises. First, he tells Janet and Chrissy that he passed his cooking exam, and they are very happy for him. Eleanor then comes out and Jack tells him that's one of the surprises. Janet and Chrissy are very excited to see Eleanor and the three girls begin talking about old times. Eleanor tells them that she divorced her husband Teddy and now is looking for a new place to live. Jack then feels left out because everything they talk about happened before Janet and Chrissy met him. He leaves and goes to the Regal Beagle because he doesn't feel like he belongs in the apartment. At the Regal Beagle, he sees Larry and Larry convinces Jack that Janet and Chrissy want Eleanor to move back in. Jack then fears that his best friends will kick him out of the apartment and he would no longer have a place to live. So, Larry and Jack come up with a plan. Janet and Chrissy are planning a surprise party for Eleanor. Jack and Larry decide that they will ruin the party by putting saw dust in the cake…and by doing a surprise streaking. What they don't know is that the party is really for JACK, since he passed his cooking exam, and that Janet and Chrissy only said it was for Eleanor so that he'd be surprised. When Jack finally finds this out, he panics and takes everyone's cake. He completely forgets about Larry, who then gets very embarrassed because he was streaking in front of everyone by himself. Eleanor is not moving in after all. She plans to move to San Diego. AIRDATE: December 12, 1978 |

He hears Jack say that he does not have his share of the rent and says that he'll tell Mr. Roper he needs to save his money for a blender.
