It is Stanley and Helen's anniversery and Stanley wants to buy Helen something wonderful. So, he buys her a parakeet and asks Jack, Janet, and Chrissy to hide it in their apartment. The next morning Janet tells Jack and Chrissy that instead of a raise, her boss gave her two tickets to a Frank Sinatra concert. She says she will give it to Jack and Chrissy, but Jack wants both of the tickets because he wants to take a girl named Inga to the concert. Jack and Chrissy then fight over the tickets, but in the end, Chrissy decides to give hers to Jack. Then, Jack decides to call Inga to tell her the good news. As he sits down on the couch talking on the phone, he sits down on the shoe box the bird was in! He tells Janet and the two of them panic, but get even more worried when the Ropers come upstairs! Jack tells Stanley that he killed the bird, but Jack thinks of another plan. When Mrs. Roper closes her eyes and sticks out her hand for her present, Jack puts the two Frank Sinatra tickets in her hand. Helen loves them and she becomes very happy. After the Ropers leave, Jack and Janet open the shoe box, only to find out that it is EMPTY! Chrissy then comes out of her bedroom saying that she let the bird fly around in the bathroom during the night.

It is Jack's birthday and Janet and Chrissy are planning a surprise birthday for him in the Ropers apartment. Then, an old stewardess girlfriend of Jack's comes by the apartment. Her name is Susan Walters and when Jack hears that she is in the apartment, he decides he will not go out with her again because she already broke his heart once. But then, when Susan comes out of the bathroom, she looks gorgeous and Jack agrees to go out with her again. Susan also says that she flew in for Jack's birthday, which she only found out about when she came into the apartment. Jack and Susan then leave and go to the Regal Beagle. Janet doesn't want Jack's party to be ruined, so she sends Chrissy to the Regal Beagle to be flirty and sexy to try and get Jack to come back. When she goes to the Regal Beagle, Jack doesn't even pay attention to her and tells her to go home. When Jack finally comes home, he sees his surprise party! Jack decides to stay at the party and lets Susan leave because she is seeing another guy.
