I hurt,
oh, I hurrt!
I must get up
I can't move
why can't I get up?
I must go home but
I can't.......
The battered
and broken
body of the little cat
struggled to rise
even as blood
filled the tiny lungs
suffocating the small animal.
The little bell
tinkled merrily,
unaware,
as inanimate things are,
of the momumental struggle in progress.
And then
there was
silence
and the sound
of
crickets
and the calling
of night birds.
"It was only a cat,"
the driver said as he sped away.
Only a cat.........
One small spirit which feels no more and celebrates life no more and returneth no more to that place of light and warmth called home.
How does one place a value
on the life of a creature?
Do we think in terms
of dollars and cents
or of the emotional investment
some make in companion animals?
If you had a pet bird would you
allow it to fly free at will
and expect it to be safe
and return home at night?
Then why allow your cat to roam
free while believing that you are being
good to your pet?
It is illegal in some counties
to permit a dog or cat
to wander loose. Cats are property
for which owners bear a legal and
financial responsibility. If a driver
wrecks his car to avoid an animal
the pet owner can be made to pay
damages.
Love your pet enought to keep
it under control at all times.
Love it enough to keep it alive!
