I have attended Heluo's classes in Rotterdam and my review is as
follows:
Venue: The courses took place in DJOJ. I found this place very peaceful
and very happy. Might be the name DJOJ (pronounced as "joy") itself did
the trick. My time there is just like a retreat or a spiritual weekend
(please note: Feng Shui, Nine Star Ki and Four Pillars have nothing to
do with spirituality. Please remember).
I quite like the simple vegetarian dishes there. I like the herbal tea
there too. I have bought quite a few boxes of tea bags back to the UK as
a little treat for myself! The simplicity of the place makes me feel
relax and forget everything from the "normal" busy life (might be no
television there helps!). I think this environment is the best for me to
concentrate and learn.
Course Fee: It is very very good value for money. Okay, see "course
book" and “the class” sections for reasons. There are also different
discount schemes. As an example, your second course fee within the same
season in the same year will be 10% off, and your third course fee
within the same season in the same year will be 25% off.
He really does not need to do this to attract students; and, to some of
you, you must be thinking that it is too good to be true. I cannot
explain this to you. Heluo is a bit crazy, but I think his passion is to
share these subjects with as many people in the world as he can. In the
past, I did tell my colleagues that he should be registered as a
charitable organization. Okay, I don't think I can explain more on this.
However, I do hope people could publish their feedback like I did, so
that other people could also be benefited. Also, to a lot of
practitioners here, I am sure the course fee is relatively nothing.
Course Book: Each course book is as thick as the telephone directory. It
is about 5 to 6 centimeters thick and printed on double sides of A4
paper. Okay, thickness of the course book does not mean anything. It
could contain a lot of useless or wrong information. However, I have
every confidence that majority of the content (if not the whole book)
are accurate to the best of his knowledge. I would, indeed, recommend
these courses to people at all levels. For beginner, the course book
contains genuine information on the subject (I think only a few people
could really understand the importance of the last sentence. For those
of us who have spent a lot of money on different "variations" of so
called "Feng Shui" should understand this). (It is a bit unprofessional
to mention Master Yu here. But I think Heluo has done too many Master
Yu's courses (i.e. study with Master Yu long enough), I would be very
surprised if he does not share the genuine stuff in his Feng Shui and
Four Pillars course books with us. I am sure if Heluo is teaching
rubbish, Master Yu would have disowned this guy and removed his "Master
of Feng Shui" title by now!).
A few highlights on individual course book are as follows:
Feng Shui – I love the quotes of the Chinese Feng Shui classic and its
explanations. To me, it is something special and unexpected. If you
don’t study and understand them, you don’t really know about Feng Shui.
To me, if the Chinese version of the quotes are also printed, I would be
absolutely delighted. A wealth of good quality information is in there.
It is, to me, a good handbook on the subject and no doubt, this course
book will be with me and generations to come.
Nine Star Ki – I don’t have any highlights on this. It is because the
whole subject is amazing, an eye opening experience to me. The only word
I can describe is “spooky”! (Okay, once again, I don’t mean it in a
spiritual way). Predicting world events. Looking at the magic square, I
can even see myself traveling to Rotterdam to do the course! (I booked
the ticket a few good months before I know about 9 star ki). Okay, the
last chapter is written in Dutch at the moment, but it is not life
threatening. Heluo is working on the translation at the moment anyway.
Four Pillars – His own graphical representation of four pillars works
very well with the traditional format. Also, how to change destiny
through behavior and diet are discussed. It might or might not be
directly related to the subject, however, I do appreciate a few words
were said.
A few chapters are the same in all three course books. But then, the
three subjects are interrelated in one way or another after all.
The Class – The course itself ran from Thursday to Sunday. It is good
for me because I only need to take the minimum number of days off work.
There are about 10 students in average for the three classes I attended.
I like small class size. Majority of the attendees are Dutch and their
English are pretty good. The classes were conducted in English. A little
of Dutch were used very occasionally to ensure the Dutch classmates
totally understand the key points before proceed any further.
There were advanced students there and it is true. They took notes
seriously, and to me, they still got something to learn in the class.
There is one thing which I think it is worth pointing out, or should I
say, set the expectation right. No one can learn Feng Shui, Nine Star Ki
or Four Pillars in four days, even if you are a super student and your
tutor is a super teacher. The main objective of the four days, to me, is
to put you onto the right track, so that you can continue your study,
with the use of the course book, in the right direction (sail in the
right direction). In other words, to point out the key basics of the
subject, so that you can apply and have a good foundation to build on
when you want to take the subject further (Also, it is wrong to believe
that you will know everything on the subject after the four days. In
reality, you can still pick up new things every time you read the course
book again).
As an example, Heluo explained the Binary Model of Creation, Twelve
Zhong Qi, the Big Dipper and the waxing and waning Qi in the Feng Shui
class. In the past, these were the chapters I would have skipped when I
read most of the books. I thought they are boring and I don’t want to
know about them. The subjects might be interesting but I just want to
read the Feng Shui bit. Thanks but no thanks. Only when I was forced to
listen to him in the Feng Shui class, I can only then realize and
appreciate how important they are to the principles of Feng Shui.
Another example. I find it very hard to learn Four Pillars without a
person physically to show me how (it is just my style of learning.
Apparently, there are four different styles of learning and everyone is
different). In the four days, I have learnt at least the basics of the
Four Pillars. It is now up to me to study the subject further through
the course book and to gain my experience through regular practice.
And the last thing I have to mention (and I am sure a lot of us have the
same experience when attending seminars) is to meet a lot of interesting
people sharing similar interests and new faces with a very familiar
name. It has been my great honor to meet Herman, Vicky, Tony, the wolf
lady and a few others.
I have not been paid by anyone to write this. However, if anyone wants
to, I am not going to refuse! J : )
