Qi moves outside-in from all directions. Qi will find a pathway into the house and it will cause a flow of Qi inside the house.

The first two floor plans shown have similar orientation as to actual directions.

Black Hat shows that it understands that there is more to life than the eye will meet and teaches us that the cosmos can be understood through trigrams. It then lectures how exactly these trigrams should be located within the confines of a built structure.

In the next examples, the position of the South is shown by a sun.

Pattern

Lin Yun
Divides a floor plan into nine equal sectors.
All Positions are thus evenly governed by their respective trigrams.
NO one trigram dominates the other.

Traditional
Keeps to the 45 degrees directional option, working with actual directions.
Trigrams of North and South dominate for this house.
Trigrams of East and West are weak for this house.

Main entrance

Lin Yun
The main entrance – according to Lin Yun – is in the Knowledge Position, a Position allocated to the Northeast and the trigram Mountain (Gen).

Traditional
Main entrance is not in Northeast as claimed by Lin Yun, but door is in the North. This fact does not disturb Lin Yunners.

Wealth

Lin Yun
Wealth Position – for any house - is to be found in the extreme left corner, diagonally farthest away from the wall that has the main entrance.

Traditional
Wealth can be anywhere in a house, depending on the Flying Star chart, which is yet to be determined. Wealth will not be dealt with in the same way, as there are many different techniques for stimulating wealth, one of them by working on the Prominent Water Dragon, another one by understanding the principle of Holy I and Holy 0, applying Water Dragon formulae and so on.

Treatment for Wealth

Lin Yun
Because Wealth is understood as a Wood aspect, belonging to the Southeast, or trigram Wind (Xun), according to Lin Yun and in order to promote good financial prospects, a body of H₂O should be taken into the Wealth Position. Water engenders Wood.

Traditional
A body of H₂O taken to Lin Yun’s appointed Southeast, will be taken to the actual South sector. Water controls Fire.

Look at the floor plan on the far right hand side and note how this house changed its orientation as to true directions.

What was South in the previous example, is now West.

This fact does not disturb Lin Yun, as Career is still at the wall with the main entrance.

The rigidity of this system does not stop even here, as it is aggressive  and persistent enough to then even step on the Laws of Nature and still force the trigrams where they decided they should be, in their fixed positions.

In Lin Yun’s system the North-South axis of the Ba Gua is always oriented to face the wall with the main door of a house or individual rooms, even if the North is somewhere else.

Therefore the wall with the main door will always include sectors Knowledge – Career – Helpful People. Your Wealth corner will always be at the far left at the opposite wall, seen diagonally from the entrance of your house or each individual room.

The idea of Wealth being originally located in the Southeast (and connected to the Wind Trigram) is abandoned in this system.

Lin Yun will tell you that, according to the Five Transformations you can still place an aquarium in the Wealth position to generate money. The Water of the aquarium will generate the Wood of this corner and thus your Wealth.

You have to decide if you want to work with true directions or if you want to stay with the Lin Yun Ba Gua. You have to decide if true directions are compatible with the Lin Yun Ba Gua, if they are never compatible or sometimes show a match.

Seen from true directions, however, the example above shows what happens when the Facing wall of the house faces true East.

The so called Wealth position of this house will face partly South, partly Southwest. South is the domain of Fire, Southwest is the domain of Earth, seen from the basic Luo Shu, or Earth chart.

An aquarium in the so called Wealth position, being in South or Southwest, may cause for a clash between Water and Earth and Water and Fire in this particular house.

According to Lin Yun’s terms you will see money generated. Still keeping with Lin Yun’s system, but seen from true directions you may also injure your marriage, because Marriage in Lin Yun’s system is in the Southwest, and you may ruin your reputation where according to Lin Yun, Fame is in the South.
Both Xuan Kong practitioners and Lin Yun practitioners claim effectiveness and beneficial results.

Do not confuse different systems. Sometimes a technique from one system may cause for a direct conflict seen from the other system. If you choose to combine systems, make sure you know the ins and outs of all to prevent mistakes.
