John is first known from a court record (July 24, 1650) when, as John Sparke, he was apprenticed to Obadiah Wood a bisquit maker in Ipswich, MA. Obadiah Wood was John's brother-in-law having married Martha Sparke, John's older sister. John's younger brother Samuel, was apprenticed to William English on the same date as a shoemaker.
