NOTE: from Pioneers of Maine and New Hampshire 1623-1660 by POPE page 129: LORD, LORDE, LAWDE, Nathan, Kittery, signed (with mark) petition to Parliament concerning Mr. Leader 20 Dec. 1652.[Bax. MSS] He m. Martha, dau. of William Everett, born about 1640, as she deposed 23 June 1682. She joined him in a deed of land June 22, 1678 to Thomas Abbe and Jonathan Nayson. His son Nathan deposed 25 March 1686, ae. about 29 years. Abraham Conley calls him "son in law" in will dated March 1, 1674. This may mean step-son; or Lord may have married a daughter of Conley for his first wife.

GEMNH: He was sometimes referred to as Nathaniel. At death, his age is given as 87. However, this may be exaggerated or he was much older than his wife.

From State of Maine page 501: LORD...In 1676, with his son and namesake, he took possession of an estate of seventy-seven acres...located in Oldfields in South Berwick. Upon this place a garrison was maintained during the Indian troubles and was occupied as a residence as late as 1816. This was a unique and extensive edifice and had a door through which could be driven a yoke of oxen and cart. The door was surmounted by a carved figurehead, representing the prow of a ship, while many wood carvings on its interior added to its adornment...

From Directory of the Ancestral Heads of New England Families 1620-1700 by Holmes: NATHAN or NATHANIEL, came from County Kent, England; purchased land at Kittery, Maine, 1662; removed to South Berwick, Maine.
