A Simple Mask Effect & Frame

granitemaskfinal

This tutorial uses many of the same effects as

my other tutorials, but I just loved this mask

and how it looked with just about any picture.

I think it looks especially good with portraits.

Ok, let's get started. For this tutorial you will

need an image of your choice or you can use mine.

Right click and choose save picture as and save to

your hard drive.

granitemaskoriginal

You will also need the BGRANITE.MSK.

You can download it here. I don't know where

I found this mask, so can't give credit, but it

sure does give a nice mask effect. You will

also need Blade Pro, the Creamy Gold2-Diz

preset. You can download it from Dizz's site here

or use a preset of your choice. You will also need

Fantastic Machines Paint Engine.............you can

download it here. If you choose to use corners on your

frame, you can download the DBL Corners here.

It is listed as Ornamental Corners.

Open up the image of your choice. Choose Masks/

Load from Disk and choose the BBGRANITE.MSK.

Now choose Masks/Invert.

Then Masks/Delete and answer yes

to the question would you like this mask merged

into the current layer. This is what

your image should look like.

 Next choose Layer/New Raster Layer.

Layers/Arrange/Send to bottom.

Using your bucket tool thegirlsbuckettool with these settings,

flood fill the new layer with a contrasting color.

granitemaskss3

I used Color #868267.

Next choose Effects/Plugin Filters/Fantastic Machine/Paint Engine

and use my Ice Crystals settings. You can download my fmachine.ini

file here and extract to your Windows folder. You can

now choose the Ice Crystal setting from the drop down list

of presets.

Now choose Effects/Texture Effects/Blinds and use these settings.

granitemaskss4

choose Effects/3D Effects/Drop Shadow

and apply a drop shadow using these settings.

granitemaskss5

Next choose Layers/Merge/Merge All.

Now choose Effects/Texture Effects/Blinds and use the following settings.

granitemaskss6

Change your background color to white and now choose Effects/Add Borders

and add a symmetric border of 2 pixels. Using the magic wand thegirlsmagicwand

with the following settings, select the white border.

granitemaskss7

Now choose Effects/Flaming Pear/Blade Pro and choose a preset of your choice.

I used Diz's Creamy Gold 2. Now choose Effects/3D Effects/Inner Bevel

and use the following settings.

granitemaskss8

Next choose Image/Add Borders and add a border of 4.
I used Color#868267. Next choose Image/Add Borders and add another 2 pixel,

apply the same blade pro preset and the same inner bevel as before.

Now choose Image/Add Border and add a 2 pixel border

of your contrasting color. I used Color#868267.

I like to add corners to decorate my frames. Here is how I did mine.

Choose Layer/New Raster Layer. Using your text tool with the following settings.

granitemaskss9

I used DBL Corners Capital K.

Next apply the same blade pro preset and inner bevel as before

and a drop shadow with the following settings.

granitemaskss10

Align the corner. Click on Layer 1. Next choose Layers/Duplicate,

then Image/Mirror. Now choose Layers/Duplicate, then Image/Flip.

Next choose Layers/Duplicate, then Image/Mirror.

You should now have the corner ding in all 4 corners.

Now choose Layers/Merge/Merge All.

Here is the final image!
