For
this tutorial you will need an image of your choice,
the faded edge mask image, and a texture fill for your
background. If you would like to use my images right
click on the image and choose save picture as and
save to your hard drive. Here are the images I will
be
using.
This
is the background texture I will be using.
This
is the faded edge mask image.

Okay
we are ready to begin. Open all of your images
you will be using. Click on the image you are going
to fade the background into. Now choose Layers/New
Raster Layer and add a new layer. Using the bucket
tool, flood fill using your background texture as a pattern.
Now choose Masks/New/From Image and use the following
settings.

Next
choose Masks/Delete. Layers/Merge/Merge All.
Your image should look like this.

Now
choose Layers/New Raster Layer. Using the bucket tool,
flood fill with your background texture as a pattern.
Next choose
Masks/New/From Image and using the same settings as before.
Masks/Delete. Layers/Merge/Merge All. Your image
should
be starting to fade into the background.
Next
choose Layers/New Raster Layer. Using the bucket
tool, flood fill with your background texture as a pattern.
Next choose Masks/New/From Image and use the same
settings as before. Masks/Delete. Layers/Merge/Merge
All.
Keep repeating this process until you get the background
faded to your liking.
I
learned this technique from Moonlight Designs tutorial.
