A Review of Lindows

Lindows is a new Operating system with the ability to run both
Windows and Linux software.

If LindowsOS works it will provide users with an alternate operating
system of windows, but with the ability run any windows software on it.
Aswell as this Lindows will also be able to run Linux software making
it an excellent operating system for anyone. It will provide an alternative
that's easy to use and runs efficiently but costs about half the full
retail price of the home edition of Windows XP and plays well with
real Windows-based systems. And if it wins customers, it could open
up a vast library of Linux software and opportunities for
programmers in the open-source community.
The new operating system promises much greater simplicity than
any other Linux distribution and file navigation that is
familiar to Windows users. With one license, users can
legally copy Lindows to a home PC, laptop and work computer.
Microsoft would charge for each.
Lindows OS has a 20-person team working on it. Starting with the base
Linux OS gave the Lindows team a nice head start, after which all the
team had to do was translate Windows app-to-OS hooks. The open-source
WINE project (which is software that allows Windows applications to
run in Unix that has been in development since 1993) helped out there.
But the Lindows team still must make its OS run the key versions of Microsoft Office.
Microsoft has already sued Lindows for copyright infringment but they failed
when a judge found in favour of Lindows.
