    WARDROBE S.O.S.                                                 review

Yawn. Former stylist CHEN HANWEI trumps GUO LIANG in makeover contest nearly every week.

Pitting a former stylist against a veteran compere to see who’s the better style doctor is not so much boring as predictable. Of course Chen Hanwei's going to beat Guo Liang - as he has done in every episode of Wardrobe S.O.S. so far save the first. And we thought the show had something going for it when Guo Liang won that one miserable, time. We were fooled. To be fair, Guo Liang tries his best to do right by the hapless ladies who, open their shamefully inadequate wardrobes for national scrutiny each week. Invariably, he tears up clothes that are ugly beyond belief and turns them into new outfits, opting for simplicity over experimentation. The colourful Hanwei, on the other hand, doesn’t hesitate to sacrifice three blouses and a skirt to make a new top; he has even savaged a rather nice pink-and-grey sweater just to see if his idea would work. Of course Guo Liang has no chance against such ruthlessness. But we only feel sorry for the victims and their brutalised wardrobes.

Verdict: Why go through all this trouble to destroy clothes only to come up with clothes that look less than perfectly finished? A quick sponsored visit to the department store would be far more productive. - DIONNE KHO
