Introducing the Royal Family:

Ciona-Mara (tm) (kin-uh mar-uh): Despised by her father King Cluanach (clon-ox) of Nereidia for her mermaid appearance, Ciona was relegated to live in the dungeons beneath the Royal Palace at Lycana for the duration of her childhood. Her appearance was no fluke, for her mother was the captive princess Nuanu from the Mer-lands who passed on her unique mermaid attributes to each of her children. In spite of Cluanach's dying wish, his eldest daughter is seated on the throne of Nereidia, the largest of all the Pacific undersea nations.

Blessed with the traditional mermaid's gifts of limited precognition and water control, Ciona has found that she also has healing abilities which radiate throught her hands to cure infirmities in others. It's agreed by many of her loyal subjects that her greatest gifts are her indomitable spirit, her limitless kindness and her sweet, albeit ditzy demeanor.

Bual-lile (tm) (boo-ah lilly): Maiden of many titles, Bual-lile (or 'Lile) the Princess Royal was brought up as the pampered child of King Cluanach and his queen, Rhia. In actuality, she is the second child of the king and his unwilling handmaiden, Nuanu.

Unlike her older sister, Ciona, 'Lile was born with no outer appearance of her mer parentage, which belies the gifts of her mermaid heritage. She is capable of astral projection, with an additional ability to create and project weapons and shields from a mixture of light and metalic elements found in the surrounding waters. Her often ill-tempered and sardonic demeanor is in direct opposition to that of her sister, making theirs a volitile relationship at best. In spite of this, they share a deep and loving respect for each other, and each is the other's greatest defender.

'Lile relinquished accession to the throne she was brought up to inherit, partly in effort to right the crimes committed agianst her sister by their father. She remains an erstwhile guide and counselor to Ciona and declares herself to be the foremost protector of the queen--a rather difficult task to maintain at times when Ciona is at her silliest and 'Lile's temper is at its shortest!

Pincin (tm) (pin-keen): A boy of many contradictions, young Solas (commonly called "Pincin"), the only male offspring of King Cluanach, by rights should sit on the throne of the now deceased ruler, but, by the laws decreed by his own father, Solas has no rights. Though he was born with a human appearance, by age two the boy began to grow fish-like fins on his arms, legs and back. Deeming him a genetic abomination, the king had the toddler cast into the very dungeons in which the child's mother and eldest sister languished, thus denying the boy his birthright.

Cluanach later used the child as a pawn to end a war he'd waged with a neighboring territory, which resulted in the young Solas being sent far away to a certain death. Curiously, ten years later he was found living in the alleyways of Lycana's market district, surviving as a thief on the streets of the crowned city. It was there that he acquired the nickname "the Pincin," a Gaelic word for "minnow."

What Cluanach couldn't deny to the young prince were the natural abilities passed on to him by his mother: an enhanced agility, keen senses and limited precognitive skills. Stranger still are gifts which he is only now beginning to demonstrate: the ability to manipulate the very light itself, in addition to what appears to be a form of mind control.

Pincin tends to find all of these "gifts" to be alarming; his only desires are to be accepted as any normal boy would be and to have a loving home and family. His sisters have accepted him with open arms, but getting his fellow citizens to do the same will take a great deal of courage and sacrifice. An affable child with a heroic bent, the Pincin is definitely up to the task.
