A female ninja runs through a forest with a baby in her arms. Elsewhere, a man prophecies that the child's strong flame will lead the Hokage Ninja. The woman opens a time gate and sends her child, Recca, through the gate. 400 years later, Ishijima Domon chases the teenage Hanabishi Recca. Recca teases Domon by calling him a "nose-pierced Mongoloid". The two fight and Recca easily dodges Domon's attacks. Domon falls into a pit and Recca tells him that if Domon defeats Recca, Recca will be his ninja. Kage Houshi watches Recca through her Eikai ball. Recca returns home to his room, which is full of ninja weaponry and artifacts. He yells at his father for smoking while making fireworks. In Mori Kouran's office, a man is burned to death by Kurei's purple flames. Kouran orders the man's body double prepared in case the media pursues the scandal. Kurei searches for the immortality technique of 400 years ago for his father. While he is eating lunch, Recca sees a pretty girl, Sakoshita Yanagi, playing with a group of children. He follows her and notices a pile of pipes about to fall on her and a child. He pushes them out of the way and is hit instead. Yanagi heals Recca as a crowd gathers. Once he wakes, Recca runs away from the crowd and Yanagi follows him. He thanks her for saving him and she heals a cut on his hand. As thanks, he takes her to an abandoned building and shows her his family's homemade fireworks. Kage Houshi appears from the shadows. She tells Recca that he is a flame master descended from the Hokage ninja clan, but he turns to leave, not believing her. Kage Houshi fights Recca, trying to get him to call flame from his hand. Recca's leg is wounded and Yanagi stands in front of him to try and protect him from Kage Houshi. Kage Houshi cuts Yanagi who passes out but still tries to heal Recca's wound. Recca and Kage Houshi fight again, with Recca losing badly. Kage Houshi threatens to kill Yanagi and Recca calls a flame from his hand. Kage Houshi is enveloped in flames, but tells Recca the flame is not strong enough to kill her and disappears. Recca carries Yanagi home. He declares Yanagi his princess, and himself her ninja.
