Test Of My Theory
Over the past 30 or 40 years, we have all seen the many HUNDREDS of dietry advices, fear mongering, fads, do's and dont's.  All of which you either, believe or write off to 'poppycock nonsense'.
I have a rule of thumb in these matters, I compare it to my parents health at my age, their dietry habits (these days the dieticians would have a pink FIT at what they ate, mainly from economic necessity).
However most of my parent's generation have proven to be a tough, and lasting generation, which speaks for itself.
My own father died at the ripe old age of 89, body still intact, except for one knee replacement at the age of 77.  His mind however had left him behind, and in the last few years, he relived his youth, more times than being in the present day.
My husbands mother is still with us, and at the wonderful age of 92, is still of sound mind.  She remembers happenings and people, that even I have forgotten about. A woman I admire and love, she raised 5 children, on one man's income, doing some babysitting etc to help where she could. All of her children are responsible adults, each with their own families today.
I tell you this little story, so that you can relate to my tale of testing my theory, as to what is good for you, and what is not....lol
I was reared on delicous full cream milk, no additives, we lived almost next door to our local town milkman. When mum wanted extra milk, it was my job to take the billy can around to Mr. Pederson's, and get a quart of his wonderful milk.  It's the one thing that I still have in lavish quantities, I make sure that I have at least one full glass of full cream milk with dinner at night.
As the years have passed, and all the warnings about it being bad for cholesterol, bad for causing weight gain, etc etc. I steadfastly refused point BLANK, to go onto the other 'substitutes' such as skim milk, calcium enriched low fat blah blah blah....give me my MILK...regardless LOL
I have often wondered how my bone density was holding up over the years,
and whether my theory was right or wrong. I am now 63 years of age, and if ever osteoporosis was going to take it's toll, it's now. Although I never took the time or expense of going to have a bone density test, the thought has often crossed my mind.
Last Sunday, it was a typical autumn day here where we live, crystal clear blue sky, a whispy light breeze, perfect for fishing.  Living close to the sea as we do, we never seem to take advantage of our area as often as we should.
I was reared fishing, having a 'fishing nut' for a father, I was practically reared with a fishing line in my hand. There's nothing better than sitting there with the sound of water lapping lazily at your feet, sun beating down on your old worn hat, watching the local fishing boats come in and out of port and the gulls floating effortlessly on the rippling water.  Aaaahhh that's pretty close to perfect.
We have (had) a favourite fishing spot. At the inlet to a canal development here, the local council has done considerable foreshore improvements, and has placed huge granite boulders along the shoreline.
So there  we were, fishing gear, bait, dog and leash, a real family outing.
I stood for some moments, carefully choosing a path of safe rocks to negotiate to the waterline.
Off I set, a little shaky, as I'm not as fleet footed as I was in my younger days.
I swear....I was as careful as could be, but 2/3s of the way to my selected fishing spot, all hell broke loose!!
I took a step to the right, onto what appeared to be a 'safe rock' and WHOOPS!
The next thing I felt myself falling head over turkey, down I went, and having my hands full of fishing tackle etc. I had very little to stop my fall. My left hand, holding my fishing line was the first point of impact, or at least the back of my hand was, the two knuckles on my left hand hit the rock first, then my left elbow. Next came my left hip....OUCH!!!
The first thing I noticed was my hat, floating in the water, I grabbed that and tossed it back onto the rocks, then I noticed my right shoe, floating loftily along like a little boat, heading up into the canal, on the tide.
My husband was about 12 to 15 feet behind me, too far to help me from falling, besides his hands were full of fishing tackle as well, including the fishing net.  By the time he made it down to where I was, he was just in time to fish out my escaping shoe with the net.
I lay there, assessing any damage I may have done to myself, the thought crossed my mind, what if I broke my hip, how would we manage to get me back up to the safe shoreline?
If EVER I was to break my hip it was NOW....
Gradually, the numbness wore off my body, and it was time to try to sit up and truly find out what damage had been done.
I gingerly and tentatively sat up, checked my elbow, quite a graze, but no real damage.  Next, it was time to attempt to stand, and lo and behold, although my hip was paining from the graze, nothing appeared to be broken...PHEW!
Then....as always happens, with my warped sense of humour, I began to imagine being other people, seeing this stupid old duck, sprawling head first down onto the rocks, trying not to fall into the water!!  LOL
I began laughing, at the thought of watching this scenario unfold....LOL
There were a couple of fishermen further along the canal, just how they kept a straight face after witnessing my plunge, is beyond me...they must have had tremendous 'self control' but they sure had one amusing fishing tale to tell their grandkids when they returned home LOL
So here I am, one week later, and bruises all over, a little stiff and sore, and having to remember not to try sleeping on that hip, a little older, and a little wiser.  Next time we go fishing...the old BRIDGE looks an ideal place to go.....LOL

Getting back to my theory, I'm sure it has proved my point, it looks as if my milk drinking has paid off in full. No broken bones, just a bad bruise or two and a dented ego...LOL
