What is Henna?

Henna is a form of tattooing practiced in the Middle East and in some parts of Africa. You use a paste made from the Henna plant to dye your skin.In powder and paste form it is green but it leaves your skin dark orange or brown wherever you put it.

The first time I had Henna done was when I went to Canada's Wonderland in 2001. I loved it and didn't want it to go away so I searched the internet and found lots of info. It made it myself and now do it occasionally. I think you need to be an artist for more intricate designs however. It is easy to find patterns and info (see links below).

I prefer Henna being done to my legs and wrist although it's hard on the wrist because it bends and therefore messes up more easily.

Henna Tips

  1. Smooth the mixture really well by sifting____

  2. The fresher the mixture, the better.

  3. You can buy a small box from a local Indian store. It goes a long way.

  4. It works best on hands, it shows up bright and lasts longer.

  5. Use a plastic bag with the corner snipped for application.

  6. Wrapping your design absolutely makes it dark (as opposed to spraying)

  7. Overnight wrapping will almost certainly ruin your design.
