I've always been interested in plants but everytime I planted something, it died. I was frustrated and would give up for a short while. Then I would decide to try again and I would plant more, they would die and the cycle continued. One time however, I got lucky and the plants stayed alive. So I started container gardening inside my house. I probably had more luck this time because my children were older and I had more time to garden. I wanted my luck to last so I decided to read books about gardening. More About Me and Gardening Favourite Herb: Lavender because it has lots of medicinal properties and smells good. Favourite Plant: Hosta because it is low maintenance and fills in large areas with its foilage. Favourite Shrub: Lilac because it looks and smells pretty. First Plant I planted outside: Lilac Bush Perennials or Annuals? I prefer Perennials. I'm what you might call a reluctant gardener. I love plants but they have never done well for me. I found the perfect book for me "The Reluctant Gardener A Beginners Guide to Gardening in Canada" by Dinah Shields & Edwinna von Baeyer. It was perfect for me. So I've managed the last few years to actually have plants live. Slowly my gardens and houseplants have grown and spread along with my plant care knowledge. If you are a Reluctant Gardener like me I highly recommend "The Reluctant Gardener". Purchase this book at: I prefer to buy plants instead of seeds mostly because I don't have a lot of space inside the house to nurture them. I buy my plants anywhere, I don't shop at one particular place. I do order from mail catalogues occasionally because they have better selection. One I have ordered from before: Rockwood
Gardens One I haven't ordered from yet but intend to: Richters
Herbs Weeds are my main gardening problem. I get so many of them and it's so much work to pull them out. I want to try mulch to see if that keeps weeds down. It seems to for other people. One weed, a black eyed susan, has been growing in my backyard for a long time. Now that the garden has been planted where it normally grows, it grows in my garden. I tried planting it myself once and it just died. Figures. I do prefer a flower garden over a vegetable garden. A veggie garden is too much work for me. Photos of My Gardens Graphics
