PART 9 Next Day at the Hospital Maria, Max and Maria’s mom had already had their finished there discussion from last night and we waiting for the doctor to discharge Maria so they could take her home. “How is the pain today Maria?”  Max asked. “I’m hurting more then I was last night but I can’t tell them that because I’m afraid that they won’t discharge me and I want to go home.  Plus I want to prepare for when we tell Michael and Liz about us.” “I know what you mean then we have to tell my parents.  Have you heard anything from the Sheriff about that David guy?” “Yes we have to stop by the station on our way home so I can identify him.  Please come with me I can’t do this without you.” “I’m not sure that it would be a good idea to get me anywhere near that guy Maria.  I might do something stupid.  But if you really want me too I will.” “I need you there with me Max.  I will make sure you keep yourself under control.” Just as Maria finished the doctor came in with Amy and nurse with a wheelchair. “Okay Maria you can go home now.  I want you to stay home and rest for the next week then you can go back to school.  You need to go see your regular doctor in two weeks to have your wounds checked.” “Thank you doctor.  Mom, did you bring me my clothes?”  Maria asked while trying to get off the bed. “Yes honey here they are.”  Amy said bring Maria her clean cloths. “Max will you help me out of the bed, it hurts to move around to much.  Then mom will you help get my sweatpants on.”  Maria said.  Max walked over to Maria picked her up and carried her over to her mother so she could get her dressed. “You can put me down Max.  Max what are you looking at?”  Maria asked when see looked up and saw Max staring at the hospital bed. “I will put you down when your mom gets our pants on and I’m looking away so I don’t see anything.” “It’s not like you haven’t seen me already.”  Maria joked which got a dirty look from her mother. “I don’t find that funny.  I’m trying to earn your mothers trust back.”  Max said as he hide his smile. “You can put her down Max, then I can pull them up all the way.  Be gentle with her.” “I would never hurt her Mrs. Deluca.”  Max said as he put Maria down on her feet and started to back away until Maria’s hand grabbed him. “Don’t go any where or I might fall.  Plus I like leaning against you.” “Okay she is all set you can look again.  Put her in the wheelchair so we can get out of here.” “Mom, I need to stop by the sheriff’s station so I was hoping you would let me go with Max because I want him there with me.” “Fine but I want you right home after that.  You keep her safe Max because if you don’t then you have to deal with me.  Also when you get home we will get Max’s parents over so you two can tell them what you told me.” “Sounds good to me Mrs. Deluca I can give you the number and you can have them there when we get back.”  Max replied.  “You might get a new house mate after our talk but that is all right with me.” “I will see you two at the house in a little while.”  Amy said as she walked out the door. “Max, do you actually think your parents will kick you out?”  Maria asked as Max started pushing her down the hallway out of the hospital to the jeep “I don’t know but I can tell you that my dad isn’t going to be happy about this.  Especially when he finds out that it could be in the papers.” “Do you think Isabel will come with them?” “Probably, you know how nosy she is.” “Yeah I know but that is one of the reason we love her.  We will have Michael and Liz over after your parents leave.  That is of course if your aloud any where near me.” “They can’t keep me away from you Maria.”  Max said as she finally reached the jeep and picked Maria out of the wheel chair and put her into the passenger seat. “Thank you Max.”  Maria said as she leaned in to kiss Max.  As they deepen their kiss they see a light flash which makes them break the kiss.  When they turn they see a guy who just took their picture. “That will be nice picture for the newspaper.”  The guy said as he turned and ran “Max, we are so dead.  Now we have to tell everyone to day.” “We had planned on it anyways.  We better get to the sheriff’s station and then get you home.”  Max said as he got into the Jeep and drove away from the hospital. Part 10 Later with the Parents Mr. and Mrs. Evans and Isabel are sitting in Amy Deluca’s kitchen waiting for Max and Maria to return. “Why was it so important for us to be over here?”  Mr. Evans asked.  Just as he finished they heard the front door open and close. “Excuse me, I need to see how Maria is doing?”  Isabel said as she stood up and walked out of the kitchen. “Maria, how are you doing?”  Isabel said with a little attitude. “I’m in a lot of pain right now.  What’s wrong Isabel?”  Maria asked. “Max, why don’t you go get Maria something for the pain.  I need to talk to her.”  Isabel said.  Max nodded and walked into the kitchen to get a glass of water. “What is it Isabel?”  Maria asked really worried now. “I saw the two of you last night at the hospital, after your mother left and right before Max left.  So how long have you two been seeing each other?  Did you guys even think about anyone other then yourself?  What about Michael and Liz?  That could have been one of them instead of me.”  Isabel said letting her anger out “Isabel, I’m sorry you had to find out that way.”  Maria said as tears started flowing down her face. “Maria, what’s wrong why are you crying?”  Max asked as he came out of the kitchen.  “Isabel what did you do to her?” “Isabel didn’t do anything to me.  The pain is getting worse.  Let just talk to your parents so I can get some rest before later.”  Maria said not even looking at Isabel or Max.  Max went over to Maria to help her walk into the kitchen followed by Isabel. “Maria, you look so pale are you all right?”  Mrs. Evans asked. “No, Mrs. Evan’s I’m not.  That is the reason you were asked over here.”  Maria said as Max helped Maria sit down.  He took the seat next to her.  “Did you hear what happened last night?” “No, what happened all I know was that Isabel decided to stay with Liz and Max came in late then went to bed and was up and gone before I could talk to him.  Isabel met us here.”  Mrs. Evans replied really confused. “Last night I went on a date, we decided to go to the desert and look at the stars.  When we got there my date raped me and stabbed me twice in the stomach.” “Omigod Maria, are you okay?  I’m so sorry that happened.  Did they catch the guy?”  Mrs. Evans said getting tears in her eyes. “I’ll be fine physically.  I’m in a lot of pain.  It hurts to sit up and to ride in the car but that is getting off the point.”  Maria said.  She took a deep breath to continue but couldn’t help when the tears started to fall.  “Well, I found out that I was three months pregnant but when David stabbed me it made me have miscarriage.”  After she finished she started sobbing.  She finally looked up and saw the tears in Mrs. Evans and Isabel eyes. “Sorry to sound rude but what does that have to with us?”  Mr. Evans asked.  Maria was still trying to get herself under control so Max answered his question for her. “Because I was the father of the baby.”  Max said as he grabbed Maria’s hand and gave a squeeze. “Excuse me, did I just hear you right.  That the baby was suppose to be yours.”  Mr. Evans said with sadness in his voice instead of anger. “The reason we are telling you this is because when the court hearing start it could be put in the papers and the news.  Plus I’m going to be by Maria’s side through this whole thing.  Actually Maria and I are together now.  What happened to her was partly my fault.  I was pushing her away and she thought I wanted Liz back so she took that date to help her forget about me and move on.”  Max said with a tear falling down his face. “Maria and Max, I’m not happy about hearing that your sleeping together but I would never have wanted you to lose the baby.  I was suppose to be a grandfather and I’m not anymore because some guy had to hurt you.”  Mr. Evans replied finally getting anger.  “I could kill this guy.” “Dad, you’d have to wait in line behind me, the sheriff, and Amy.”  Max replied. “Maria I’m so very sorry for what I said in the living room.  Could you ever forgive me.”  Isabel said crying because of the guilt. “Isabel, I was never mad at you for what you sad.  I have thought the same things myself but I really do love your brother.  I was actually happy when I found I was pregnant because I thought that we could get closer.  Now that I’m not, I was afraid that you would hate me for putting myself in trouble.”  Maria said looking at Isabel.  Isabel walked over to Maria and gave her a hug. “I’m so sorry Maria, I will always be by your side.” “Okay you have to let go now Isabel your hurting me for real.”  Maria said as she winced in pain.  Which made Isabel jump back and fall.  Now everyone was laughing except Max because he wanted to know what was said out in the living room.  <Now I know it was something Isabel said that made Maria cry.> “Max, what has you in deep thought?”  Maria asked as she squeezed Max’s hand to bring him out of his thoughts. “I was just thinking my lovely sister and I are in need for conversation.”  Max said giving Isabel a look. “I’m sorry Mr. and Mrs. Evans that I was stupid enough to go on a date even though I knew I was pregnant and got my baby killed.  I know you hate me now but I can’t change what happened and I am really sorry.”  Maria said putting her head in her hands.  Then Maria heard a chair move but didn’t look up to afraid to see hatred.  Next thing she knew she was being held in a hug very gently.  Maria finally looked up and saw Mrs. Evans, so Maria hugged her back. “Maria, honey it isn’t your fault this happen or Max’s fault.  I don’t hate you at all.  Just a little disappointed about you two letting you getting pregnant at all.”  Mrs. Evans said to Maria. “Maria, I don’t hate you either.  But if you intend on being together you two need to get protection so that you can’t get pregnant again or at least wait till after you graduate college and are still together.”  Mr. Evans replied then looked at Max.  Max had tears running down his face.  “Max, what’s wrong?” “I just thought that you’d either kick me out or kill me for being so irresponsible.  I’m just surprised how well you’re taking this.  I mean the whole town will probably know by the end of the week.”  Max answered. “You actually thought that I would kick you out.  You made a mistake.  Of course it was a very large mistake but you are my son and I love you.  I’m sorry that you two have to go through this at such a young age.” “Your not going to make us stay apart are you?’  Max interrupted. “Of course not, you two need each other right now but remember what I said a few minutes ago and listen to it.” “We will if we ever decide to.  That is a promise.”  Maria said finally letting go of Mrs. Evans and wiping her tears away.  “I’m sorry to sound rude but I need to lay down.  I’m really tired and I’m in pain.  Max could you take me up to my room?” “Your not being rude Maria, I’m sorry you had to go through this today.”  Isabel said as she was wiping her own tears away. “Yeah I’ll take you to your room.  Do you want to come home so we can talk some more, because if you wouldn’t mind I would like to stay with Maria for awhile?  We need to talk about some stuff also.”  Max asked his parents as he walked over to Maria gently picked her up and kissed her cheek. “You can stay here, just be home later.”  Mr. Evans replied. “Isabel could you stay for a few minutes we also need to talk to you?”  Maria said “Sure thing.” “Okay, you three go to Maria’s room so she can lay down.  Isabel please take these with you so Maria can take them when she gets up stairs.  I’ll walk you two out.”  Amy said while she handed Isabel a glass of water and some pills for Maria then leading the Evans out.
