PART 7 At the Hospital Max and the Sheriff are in the waiting room waiting to hear about Maria.  Isabel, Alex, Tess, Michael, Kyle, and Liz were asked to go home because there was to many people around and Mrs. Deluca was still out of town. “Max, I need to ask you some questions about tonight?” “I know Sheriff, I have all the answer to.  I saw the guys License plate number it was DMK 666 and they were from Texas his name is David Marsters and he told Maria that he was a college student from UNM.  He raped her, and stabbed her twice also cutting her cheeks but I healed those.”  Max replied never taking his eyes off the door. “How did you know where to find her and to know that she was endanger?” “Isabel, Michael, and I could feel her feelings first the fear then the pain.  I could feel her the strongest.  I can’t believe this.  I never should have allowed her to go on this date.  We found her by driving around.” “Max she is going to be okay.” “Did you know she asked me not to heal her and let her die but I couldn’t let her die.  She means to much to me to let her die.” “I’m glad you didn’t listen to her request Max because her mother would have been devasted.  I would have been quite upset myself if she died too.”  Jim said just as the doctor walked into the room. “How is she doing doctor?” “Well, she will be physically fine but I don’t know about mentally.  Should would like to see a Max.” “That is me.  Can I go see her then?” “Sure go ahead but I’d like to talk to you sheriff if I could?” “Yes not a problem, Max go make sure she is okay and I’ll come check on her in a few minutes.”  Jim said.  Max walked into the back to find Maria.  “What was it you wanted to talk to me about doctor?” “Did you know the Ms. Deluca was pregnant?” “No I didn’t.”  Jim replied finally getting why Maria wanted Max to let her die. “We had just finishing up with her knife wounds, we saw more blood and didn’t know where it was coming from then a nurse noticed where it was coming from.  Maria had a miscarriage.  We also have the proof that she was raped.” “Thank you doctor.  I would like to see Maria now.” “Sure Sheriff.” PART 8 Meanwhile with Max and Maria Max walks into the hospital room and saw Maria staring out the window with tears running down her face. “Maria.”  Max said as he walked over to her bed.  Once he was sitting next to her in bed she started sobbing. “Max why couldn’t you have just let me die.  I got our baby killed.”  Maria whispered. “Our baby.  Maria what are you talking about?”  Max asked confused. “I found out I was three months pregnant on Tuesday.”  Maria said looking up at Max “Why didn’t you tell me.”  Max said looking sad. “I was going to tell you tomorrow after my date because I was afraid that you’d be mad that I let this happen.” “Mad, why would I be mad.  Maria I love you and I’ve told you that before.  Is that why you went on that date.” “I went on that date because I thought that I had lost you to Liz.  I need to move on.  Why couldn’t you have just let me die.”  Maria said again and started crying. “Because I love you to much.” “How did you know I was in trouble?”  Maria finally asked. “Michael, Isabel and I could feel your fear and pain.  I think I raised some suspicion because I could feel you better then Michael could.  I know why now because of the baby.”  As Max finished saying that there was a knock on the door. “May I come in I need to talk to Maria.”  The Sheriff said. “Come in Sheriff.”  Max said as he began to stand up. “Don’t.”  Maria said as she grabbed his hand. “I won’t.” “Actually I need to talk to Maria by herself.” “What did the doctor tell you sheriff.  I want Max to hear it.”  Maria said. “Maria did you know you were pregnant?” “Yes, I found out the other day.  I was three months along.”  Maria said looking over at Max.  “Could you not tell anyone about this.” “Don’t you think Michael should know.” “It wasn’t Michael’s, I’ve never slept with him it was Max’s.”  Maria replied now looking at the sheriff. “I see why you don’t want anyone to know but it will come out when we catch that guy because we are charging him with rape, attempted murder, and murder for the baby.” “Oh god, I’m so sorry Max, I didn’t mean for this to happen.”  Maria said as she started to cry again. “I’m sorry about not showing you more that I do love you and that I wasn’t going back to Liz.” “Max, I’m sorry about your baby but I need to know when you two had sex because I have to make sure that your semen isn’t still on Maria.” “We haven’t slept together in over month.”  Max said.  “I was trying to push Maria away so I didn’t hurt her plus I didn’t want to hurt Liz and Michael if they found out.” “You don’t have to explain to me Max.  I won't say anything about the baby until we catch this guy and We will catch him.” “Sheriff is my mom coming?”  Maria asked. “Yes, she is on her way home.  I sent a deputy after her because I knew she didn’t drive to this one.  She should be here soon.  I think you two need to talk to Liz and Michael before anything happens again.” “I know we do but. . . .”  Maria was cut off by the Sheriff’s phone. “This is the Sheriff, you got him, bring him down to the station I’m on my way.”  Jim said as he hung up the phone.  “Well they caught the guy so I have to go but remember what I said because it will happen soon.”  With that the Sheriff walked out but the doctor walked in. “How are you feeling Maria?” “I’m still in pain but that is mentally.  My stomach hurts but I want to know when I can go home.  I want to be in my own bed.” “Ms. Deluca we are going to keep you over night.  If all is doing well tomorrow I will let you go.  I also need to talk to you about what I told you earlier.” “It is okay to talk to me in front of Max he was the baby’s father.” “All right, how are you both handling this.  It is really rough to go through.” “I’m not doing so well with it but I will live.  What doesn’t kill me will make me stronger right.”  Maria said trying to put on a fake smile. “How about you young man.” “I’m not sure, I just found out that I was suppose to be come a father then I’m not going to be a father.” “You didn’t know before tonight.” “No, I just found out.”  Max said letting a few tears run down his face. “I’m so sorry I didn’t tell you Max.” “It is okay Maria you didn’t know this was gonna happen.”  Max said without looking up at her. “Well, I will leave you two alone.” “Doctor my mom should be here soon could you send her in when she gets here but no one else except for the sheriff.” “Sure sweetie.” Max and Maria sat in silence for the next hour both in there own thoughts.  When they were interrupted by Maria’s door flying open and Maria’s mom came running to her daughter. “Omigod Maria, I’m sorry I wasn’t here sooner.”  Amy said with a new set of tears running down her face. “Mom, plus loosen up your hurting me.”  Maria said as she winced in pain. “Sorry I just need to hold you for a second.” “I’m going to go so you can have time with your mother.”  Max said as he started towards the door but he was stopped when a pair of arm grabbed him into a hug “Thank you Max for helping my daughter when I was gone I owe you my life.” “Mrs. Deluca I would never let anything happen to Maria she means more to me then you’ll ever know.”  Max said as he pulled away from Amy.  “I better go.”  With that Max was out the door. “Okay what was that all about?”  Amy asked confused by Max’s departure “It’s nothing.”  Maria said sadly “Maria, I was so worried when the deputy showed up at my convention.  He wouldn’t tell me happen.  He just said that I needed to come with him.  So when I got to the station Jim explain everything that happen tonight on your date.  I made him bring me right over here.”  Amy said letting the tears fall.  “I’m sorry I wasn’t here.” “I wouldn’t of matter, the only people I wanted to see was Max and Jim.  Mom there is a lot of things that are going to come out while the court hearing is going on.  There is only three other people that know.  I’m gonna tell you something that your not going to like but I want you to hear them from me and not the newspapers and stuff.”  Maria said finally looking up at her mother. “Maria, what is it?  You know you can tell me anything.” “Mom, I was three months pregnant but I lost the baby tonight.”  Maria said letting the tears flow again for her dead baby. “Oh, Maria, I’m sorry honey.  I’m not happy to hear that you and Michael are having sex.  When did you find out you were pregnant?” “On Tuesday, the day I accepted the date with David.  The only reason I accepted the date was because the baby’s father was pushing me away.” “Wait I thought that you and Michael were broken up over the summer.  That is when you got pregnant.” “Who cares about Michael?  I haven’t or never will sleep with Michael.”  Maria said getting angry. “Then who is the father Maria?” “I was the baby’s father.”  Came Max’s voice from the door. “What?  I thought you were dating Liz Parker?”  Amy said totally confused. “Max, what are you doing back here?”  Maria asked completely ignoring her mother. “I couldn’t let you tell your mother by yourself.  I also wanted to tell you that I’m going to be by your side through everything.  I love you Maria.”  Max said walking to Maria and kissing her. “I’m so glad to hear you say that.  I love you too Max.” “Excuse me, I’m still in this room.  I want some answer now.”  Amy said “Sorry Mrs. Deluca.  I’m sorry that you had to find about us this way.  I’ve just been so confused.  I was dating Liz but she left me at the beginning of the summer and Maria and I started hanging around each other.  In July Maria and I went to a concert while you were away for the week.  After the concert we came back to your place and I kissed Maria then one thing lead to another and we ended up making love.”  Max explained deciding not to lie about anything. “So you had sex at my house while I was gone.  Maria I trusted you.  I won’t be leaving you alone anymore.  So was it just a one time deal?” “No.”  Was all that Max and Maria said “I think I should get some sleep.  My stomach is starting to hurt more and I’m really tired.”  Maria said hoping to get her mother to leave so she could be alone with Max. “Your not getting rid of me that easily.  Max when do you plan on telling your parents or were you not gonna tell them?”  Just as she finished asking the question the doctor came in. “I’m sorry but I’m going to have to ask you two to leave.  Maria needs her rest.”  The Doctor said. “I’m her mother, I’m staying with her tonight.”  Amy said. “Actually I think it would be best if you left mom.  I wouldn’t get much sleep if I knew that you were still here.”  Maria said. “Fine, I’ll be back in the morning and we will finish our discussion.”  Amy said as she went over to Maria and kissed her on the forehead then walked out of the room. “You to Max, I need my sleep but you better be here before she gets here tomorrow.”  Maria told Max. “All right, I will be here bright and early and I’ll keep everyone else away till later in the day.  I love you Maria.”  Max said as he bent down and kissed Maria on the lip unaware of the person standing at the door.  No one would know that they had been there either. “I love you too Maxwell.”  Maria said as Max was walking out the door. “How are you feeling Ms. Deluca?” “My stomach hurts more and I’m really tired but I think I will be okay.”  Maria said to the doctor as she rubbed her stomach. “Yes you will be okay especially with a young man that loves you as he does.” “I hope so because we have a lot of hurdles we still have to get through.”  Maria said to the doctor. “Well, get some sleep and I’ll come check on you in the morning and let you know about discharging you.”  The Doctor said as he left.
