{Hospital 2 hours later} Kyle, Max, Michael and Jim were in the waiting room awaiting news on Maria. Jerry had been arrested and was in jail. Finally the doctor came out with news. “How is she?” Max asked. “Not good but she should be fine. She has a couple broken ribs, couple black eyes, and she is still unconscience. There wasn’t any internal bleeding but we did a rape examine and no she wasn’t raped.” “Can we see her?” Kyle asked. “She is being put into a private room now. So in about 20 minutes or so and I will have someone show you her room. Twenty minutes later Max, Michael, Kyle and Jim were shown to Maria’s room. “I’ll wait out here while you guys go in. I haven’t been a friend to Maria since we started high school.” Michael said. “Michael, she still cares about you. She always will plus she is gonna need us now more then ever. You can make it up to her.” Max said to his brother. “If you want to get technical neither have we been that great of friends to her. We don’t talk to her in school and only time we see her is when she is at work but then we have Isabel and Liz with us.” Kyle said. “He is telling the truth Michael. She will be glad to see us.” Max said. Then walked in her room followed by Kyle and Michael. They walk over to her bed, Max on one side, Kyle and Michael on the other. “Maria, we’re here. I’m sorry I couldn’t get there quicker. I’m sorry I wasn’t a better friend.” Max said as he gently kissed her lips and grabbed her hand tightly. “I’m so sorry Maria. I tried to get my dad to check into Jerry but he didn’t want to believe he would have a friend like that being the Sheriff and all.” Kyle said as he took her other hand. “Hey Maria, its Michael. I’m sorry for not treating you better but that is all gonna change. I’m sorry I couldn’t stop that bastard before this. I just hope you will forgive.” Michael said before he leaned down and kissed her cheek. “There isn’t anything to forgive Michael.” Maria whispered in Michael’s wear. Then she squeezed her two best friend’s hands. “How much did you hear?” Michael asked with a huge smile. “I heard all three of you guys. I’m sorry for ruining your night with your girlfriends but I didn’t know who else to call.” Maria said as she held back her tears. “I don’t care what we were doing. You’re more important then that. You called the right people.” Kyle said. “Maria, I thought you knew we would do anything for you. You’re the most important girl in my life forever.” Max said, then he kissed her, not just a peck on the lips but a passionate kiss. About five minutes later they came up for air. “Wow! If I get one of those every time Jerry hits me again then I will be a lucky girl.” Maria said trying to make light of the situation “He will never hurt you again.” Came a voice from the door. “Jim, nice to see you. I guess you won’t be over Sunday for the game.” Maria said trying to hid her tears. “No I won’t but you will be at my house Sunday except it won’t be for the game. It’s permentantly.” Jim says as he walks over to her and kisses her cheek. “I’m sorry I should have listen to Kyle. I blame myself for this.” “Jim please don’t. Even if you had listen to Kyle you wouldn’t have found anything. This is the first time he left bruises that I couldn’t cover up or he could say that I did it at work or school. This was my entire fault for fighting with Isabel at the Crashdown. I don’t remember everything from tonight. I remember him coming home extremely drunk, first he slapped me making me fall on my bed, secondly he ripped my night gown, then he punched me a quite a few times and left the room. That’s was when I had a chance to call Max but I can’t remember anything after that.” Maria said finally letting her tears fall. Max just got up next to her and pulled to his before kissing her lightly on her lips. Michael and Kyle walked out of the room. “I’m going to kill that bastard for what he did to her.” Michael said through gritted teeth while clenching his hands into fists. “Michael I agree with you one hundred and ten percent but I think Maria need us more and if we’re in jail we won’t be able to be much help for her. Plus she will never have to go back to Jerry’s because she will be safe at my house.” Kyle said. Just then Max walks out of the room and you can see the anger in his eyes. “How is Maria?” Michael asks his brother. “She is finally asleep. She cried herself to sleep and kept saying ‘why me.’ She asked me what was so wrong with her that no body could love her.” Max replied. “We all love her. I thought she knew that.” Kyle said. “You three should head home you have school in the morning. I will stay with her.” Jim said as he rejoined the guys. “I’m not going any where. I told her I would be here when she woke up at anytime. Kyle and Michael should go you can see her tomorrow after school. Plus you two still have to deal with Isabel and Liz if they are still at our place.” Max said “All right we will go but call us tomorrow if you need anything. I will have my cell with me all day. Tell Maria I love her and I’ll see her tomorrow.” Kyle said “Same here. I’ll call before school. Your lucky mom and dad are out of town this so I don’t have to cover for you.” Michael said. Then him and Kyle left leaving Jim and Max alone. “What’s going to happen to Jerry?” Max asked. “Well he has a court hearing tomorrow for his arraignment. He is being charged with Assault and Battery. They might drop the Assault and Battery and turn it into Attempted Murder. If you three hadn’t gotten there when you did who knows if she would be alive right now.” “She doesn’t remember all the hitting he did to her. She cried herself to sleep and kept saying ‘Why me.’ I can’t stand seeing her like this. It’s killing me inside that I couldn’t have stop this. I’m in love with her. I was afraid to tell her because I thought she didn’t fell the same way. But I’m not going to hide them anymore.” “MAX!” Maria screamed from her room. Max ran inside to her side. “I’m right here. Your safe with me.” Max said as he held her in his arms. Maria held onto Max and drifted back to sleep. Max stretched out next to Maria and fell a sleep with her held tight against him. |
