One Paragraph Summary

Is this section we dicussed evidence that points toward the existence of God. We discussed how
God can be found by using religious experience, conscience, and natural law. We read about how
man's need for happiness, meaning, and hope. We discussed how these wants show that there must be
something greater that we are striving towards. We also dicussed the Ideas of different theologians and
philosophers about why they think God exists. At the end of this section we also talked about the
humanity of Jesus and how he is a great model of faith and humanity.

3 Important Ideas

One of the sections that I found most important in this chapter was the discussion of the humanity
of Jesus. I had never looked at him as an example of humanity because I always saw Him in the devine
sense that gradeschool theology usually values. I was able to better understand why Jesus talked and
spent time with sinners and those that were looked down upon by society instead of follow the
commonly accepted traditions of the Jewish elite. It helped to see another side of jesus teachings that
showed how truely human he was.

Another important idea was the idea of looking at religion as a crutch. Not one that impares our
actions and ideas, but one that allows us to atand when we are weak or sick. It portrays religion as a
source of comfort instead of a set of laws that will tell us how to live our lives. I enjoy this perspective
of religion because I often find the laws of religion overexaggerated and unnecessary and so this way of
looking at it provides a much better way of looking at religion without the laws that are sometimes
tainted by incorrect human reasoning.

One of the other important ideas that I found in this section was the ideas of the theologians and
philosophers about the existence of God. Although I disagree with the fact that it is absolutely
impossible that the universe was created by chance, I find their analogies and agruements very
reasonable. They present very strong arguements about the reasonable existence of God, with "The
Watcha and the Watchmaker" analogy or the Anthropic principle by showing that, since the chances of
intelligent design and accidentally forming are very slim, God must have created the universe to allow
this perfect formation of the universe.

Who I think Jesus is
Although I do believe that Jesus was the son of God, I don't believe all the the things that the Bible
said he did. I believe that many of the things that the Bible says are meant to teach a lesson and can be
compared to the parables that jesus taught. I believe that many of him actions may have been
elaborated by the Gospel writers or created to show a lesson that Jesus had tought that could be shown
better through actions.
