There are some things that we just have to believe in...

One Paragraph Summary

The topic of this chapter was faith. We discussed the importance of faith, and the importance of
moderation of that faith. We learned the different parts of faith, and how they are all very important to
have good faith in something or someone. We also read about how too much faith(nihiliam) or too little
faith(Radicalism) will often impare your judgement and lead you away from a good life. We also were
given examples of people that show a great amount of faith. We talked about people like Dick Hoyt,
Jim Goodnight, Danny Meyer, the Iraqi suicide bomber, and many others showed a great amount of
faith in their beliefs and expressed that faith to help those people that he/she thought were good. We
also did a report on a person who we thought was a good model of faith, and I chose Fern Holland.

3 Important Ideas

I thought that the "person of faith" assignment was very important to my understanding of faith. It
helped to show me a example of how faith is still strong today. Fern Holland, the person I chose for my
assignment, showed me how it is still possible to help those that many people have given up hope on.
She risked her life to help those that she believed were mistreated and showed a great amount of
courage by traveling to the MIiddle East. She had faith in the legal system that it could help those who
desperately needed its help, and that it was stronger than violence.
I also thought that the video of Jim Goodnight was very important to this chapter. It showed that
faith is still possible in the world of business. He had faith that, if he treated his workers well, they
would help the business as best they could. He may not be the wealthiest businessman, but he is very
rich in hs soul. He shows that it is still possible to prosper and treat those around you with kindness
and respect.
The Mission was also an important part of this chapter. It showed us how hard faith decissions
must be, and that, even though two people disagree on a decision, neither is necessarilly wrong.
Altamirano, Fr. Gabriel, and Fr. Rodrigo all disagreed on some of their actions, but none of them made
a decission that was completely wrong. They each put faith in what they belived what was right and
trusted their decissions until the very end. Although their decissions didn't lead to a happy ending,
they still kept their faith.

A Good Question
Can I ever be sure that those that I put my trust in are really trustworthy?
