Jesus: Model of Faith Image from: http://www.lavistachurchofchrist.org/Pictures/Jesus The Healing of the Beggar (Luke 18:35-43 In this passage, Jesus heals a begger that he encounters on his way to Jericho. The beggar continues to ask Jesus to heal him even after those around him rebuked him. Jesus tells the beggar that "[his] faith has saved [him]". In this story, Jesus is trying to show the power that faith can have. Although everyone around the beggar rebukes him, he continues to have a strong faith in Jesus and his ability to cure him. Jesus tells those around him that the man's faith had saved him, not some power of God. He shows everyone that faith can have great power if it's strong enough. The Faithful and Unfaithful Servant (Matthew 24:45-51) In this parable, Jesus tells a tale of two servants that are left in charge of their master's land. He says that the servant who properly runs the household will be blessed and rewarded, while the servant who thinks his master won't return soon and is violent and becomes drunk will be punished for not being prepared. In this parable, Jesus is trying to teach us to have faith that God is watching over us and has not abandoned us. He wants us not to be like the drunk servant who thinks his master won't return. We must always be ready for God to come to us and we must not forget his commandments and teachings. Jesus Forgiving His Crucifiers (Luke 23:34) Is this passage, as Jesus is being crucified, He says "Father, forgive them, they know not what they do." He forgives those around him, even though they are mocking Him and putting Him to death. Is this passage Jesus shows faith that the people in the crowd aren't as evil as they appear to be. He also shows faith that God will forgive their sins, no matter how harsh they act. He believes that people are still good somewhere inside, no matter how evil or violent they act, just as we should for those around us.
