Does God Exist?

This article was originally a letter I wrote to an atheist who debated me. He was very intelligent and good at finding loop holes. Although I presented many good arguments, he always found a way to counter them (he sometimes did not make sense though).

My purpose here is to get you thinking.

How do you measure that which has no measurement? How do you know that which surpasses knowledge? How do you understand that which surpasses understanding? Ultimately you look for truth. You look for that which you know is certain, that which is "established beyond doubt." Now if something is certain, then the something does not change.

Here is an EXAMPLE of how we can determine the POSSIBILITY OF God existing. The concept I used is the same concept you learned in school where you find an unknown value by calculating the known values.

Let me state up front that you start by working with what is known. We cannot, at any time, throw in a "what if...?" or "I don't know," because doing so causes the equation to change and thus changes the results. Furthermore, adding unknown factors into the equation makes the equation into a theory, and we do not need more theory but rather we want to work with what we know to be true.

We use all equations to derive an answer. They are ways of testing the validity of something, and no matter how many time you repeat it, the answer should always be the same. Ultimately, you want to be able to conclude true or false.

Before we start, let me focus on some known factors...

Does the universe exist? If you answer no, then you do not exist either because you part are of the universe, so yes, it exists.

Do you exist? If you answer no, then the universe does not exist either because you part are of the universe, so yes, you exist.

Can the universe think? For clarity's sake, think means to "use or exercise one's power of reason in order to make inferences, decisions, or arrive at a solution or judgments." If you answer no, then you do cannot think either because you part are of the universe, so yes.

Does the universe have a conscience? Again, for clarity's sake, conscience means "motivation deriving logically from ethical or moral principles that govern a person's thoughts and actions." If you answer no, then you do not have a conscience either because you part are of the universe, so yes.

What is consciousness? It is defined as "an alert cognitive state in which you are aware of yourself and your situation." When you consider this definition and the aforementioned facts above, is the universe alive, that is, does it have intelligent life or consciousness? Is is aware of itself? If you answer no, then you are not alive either because you part are of the universe, so yes.

Ok. Let us move on now...

Create. To create means "cause to be," or in other words, "make exist." Some say this refers to "making from nothing," but do you see "from nothing" anywhere in it's definition? Is that even possible? Can something come from nothing? Maybe so, but since we cannot see "nothing," since we cannot measure or detect it in any way, we cannot even say that nothing exists, so we must eliminate that factor and assume "something." That is, the definition of create does allow "cause to be" to mean that something comes from something else that already exists. In fact, as some point out, we know that energy converts to matter, and matter converts back to energy again. As an aside, doesn't that sound a lot like what the Bible calls, "dust to dust"?

So, is the universe something? If you say no, then you are nothing because you are something and you are part of the universe, so yes.

If you are something and the universe is something and, according to the known laws of the universe, something comes from something else, where is the original something? Can you say the universe just is? You could say that, but you would not know for sure. You would only be speculating, and again, we want to stick with what we know to be absolutely true. Furthermore, if scientists are correct, we know the universe has a beginning because they firmly teach us about "The Big Bang." Of course, if the universe has a beginning, we want to know, what "caused it to BEgin?" As an aside, doesn't "The Big Bang," sound a lot like what the Bible declares God said e.g. "Let there be light" (a sudden creation of energy)?

Now for a test...

Can the universe imagine? Imagine means to "create a thought of something that is not present or that is not the case." If you answer no, then you cannot imagine either because you are part of the universe.

What is imagination? Is it "causing to be" by taking the energy in you mind and reorganizing it in your mind? If you can imagine, can you create a universe with your imagination? If you say no, then you do not even have an imagination (i.e. ability to "create a thought"), so yes.

Imagine, if you will, a universe exactly the way you want it to be. It has all the properties you envision, all the properties tell it to have. It has all the creatures (or life) you create in it, so forth so on... Spend as much time with that as you like.

Now, to your imagined universe, will you be all-powerful? Can you do whatever you want? Yes, because your imagination is not limited to the actual physical universe in which you actually live. In your universe, good can be whatever you say it is, whatever want it to be. In fact, all the laws of your universe could be whatever you wanted them to be. For instance, you could fly or travel faster than the speed of light, if you wanted.

To your imagined universe, will you be all-knowing? Would you know everything about your imagined universe? Well, you thought of everything that is in your imagination, so yes, you would.

To your imagined universe, will you be all-present? Would you be present everywhere in your imagined universe? Yes because your imagination is only a thought and thoughts are energy and all the energy of the thought is in you, and is you.

To your imagined universe, will you exist before you created it, and after your created it? Yes because the thought that makes up your imagined universe has a beginning and an ending. Would you then be as the Bible says of God, "Alpha and Omega," Beginning and Ending? Yes!

To your imagined universe, will you appear to have always existed? Yes because though your body has beginning and end, your body is converted back to energy which exists so long as the real universe exists.

Could you be affected by your imagined universe? ONLY if you want it to affect you, unless you have mental problems, of course. In fact, if you wanted to, and if the laws of the existing universe you live in allow it, you could bring something from your imagined universe into the actual universe in which we all share. Think of any modern invention or technology.

To the universe you created in your imagination, what are you? God!? So does God exist? If you say no, then neither does your universe. In fact, your universe can never exist because if it ever does, then God exists.

As God of your imagined universe, can you ever change any of the above mentioned qualities about yourself? ONLY if you imagine yourself inside that universe, and then ONLY if you choose to pretend you do not have those qualities.

The fact is, by default you obtain all those God-like qualities simultaneously, and you can never lose them even if you wanted to. Since truth means that which cannot change, what would you be to your imagined universe? You would be Truth.

Since you created everything within your universe, and everything in it exists because you created it, again, what would you be to your universe? You would be Life!

What would your words be in relation to your imagined universe? Words are thoughts, which is energy and is the same energy that made your imagined universe, so your words would be? Equal to you. Equal how? As conscious energy. You or your thoughts would Living Word!

As all-powerful God of your imagined universe, could you APPEAR to break your own laws, thus causing "miracles," like parting an entire sea, stopping the earth from moving, making a woman pregnant without her receiving a man's seed, etc.? If you say no, then why not!? You are God, and as God, the laws you created must obey you. Furthermore, as God, using the law of creation, you could work within your imagined universe's laws and still produce a miracle. Could you make a woman pregnant without a man and stay within your own laws? Think about this. What is a sperm? It is matter. What is matter? It is energy just like your thoughts -- which you used to create your imagined universe. As God, could you create ("cause to be") a sperm of your own design from your own thoughts, and "cause it to be" within the woman?

Now someone may try to say, "Wait a minute! This proved nothing, except that God truly is only in man's imagination." But look again...

Is the universe in your imagination real? Real means"to have substance." If you say no, then your thoughts are not real because your thoughts are energy and energy is real. Some now famous person once said that when you do something in your mind it is same as doing it for real. How can that be? Well, consider this, before you act, you think about it (even if you do not realize you do), and the act and thought require the same energy.

Is it possible that God is real? Remember, do not add any "what ifs?" or things that equal "I don't know" because you cannot use what you don't know, only what we do know.

If He is real, what does that make Him to the universe that you did not imagine (i.e. the one you live in, and are part of)? True Consciousness!? To us, The all-powerful, all-present, all-knowing, Alpha and Omega, infinite God!?? Truth? Life? Living Word? All the above? You decide for yourself. I just offer this as food for thought. :)

If you repeat this test a thousand times, how many times do you arrive at the same answer? If you notice anything about this test, notice that it doesn't take a lot of knowledge about things to know what truth is. Truth wants us to find it. It wants to be known. Someone once asked, "Why would Truth make man in the image of Truth?" My answer? What better way to know what truth is than to know yourself.
