Navigating the Lower Saint Lawrence in the 19th Century.

      November 19th. schooner Magdalen, S. Babin, 16 days from Gaspé with fish, brings intelligence of five schooners being wrecked and foundered, from Bonaventure to Magdelan River, and upwards of 30 persons perished. Captain Babin died on the passage.
    November 20th. Schooner Victory, Fournier, 17 days from Gaspé, with fish and oysters. She confirms the above melancholy account, and adds that the brig Waterloo had put into Gaspé in distress, to winter, also mentions the loss of a brig near Magdelan River.

    Names of Masters of schooners lost or stranded:

    Dumas - Painchaud - Deschênes - and Flynn.

    Captain Deschênes arrived this morning from below, and states that the ship Anthorn and brig Lady Prevost from Halifax for this place, are wrecked near Magdalen River, and that Boyle's schooner is also wrecked near Point St. Valier, no lives lost.

      On Tuesday the 26th December, at Portneuf, parish of Cap Santé, if not previously disposed of by private sale: -
    The fine schooner Deux Freres, of 55 12/94 tons register; now laying in the river Portneuf, together with her anchors, cables, sails, rigging &c.; the property of Mr. Abraham Germain, of said parish. She underwent a complete and thorough repair last spring, and is now esteemed as one of the finest craft in the river.
 
 - Also, at same time and place - 
      The sloop Magdalan, of 45 tons, with her anchors, cables, sails and riggings, nearly all new and complete.
